You would know if it were from a bearing in there.

If you've checked everything, and haven't found a problem don't forget it could have fallen in while they were building, and they just put in a new bearing without, making sure they got all the balls.

It might very well be but the grinding going into 4th makes me think synchro Friday or Saturday. I don't get how this fell out though that's what's baffling.

So the tranny is junk. There's a flaw in the design of the synchro sleeve that allows the balls to be able to fall out causing the failure. My local subaru dealer says they can't get parts in time for my race this coming weekend and no one has a tranny lying around up here. 4th gear it self and the synchro sleeve with the balls and spring need to be replaced. Could this be the cause of all the 4th gear grinds we're having... I 100% believe it is.

I really doubt they will warranty it. My car is modded quite a bit and they claim that's why it failed.

I have occasional scratches when changing to 4th gear, today I was going to change the oil but I found this ball.

surely change to another used trans, but I wanted to know if there is any danger of using the car like this.
