2) It's definitely not the only factor (ethanol), but I think it is a major contributor. Ambient temperature also seems to play a big role. Weird...any time I use the Shell 91 my crickets stop almost immediately as long as the tank is low enough when I fill it up. I always get crickets on Petro 94 if it is warm out. Below ~5 C, I don't get the crickets on either fuel. I could be wrong, but I think the Petro Canada fuel all contains "up to" 10% ethanol regardless of grade or octane rating.

Can someone verify this, I heard people saying Esso gas nowadays contains upto 15% enthenol. is that true? Is this the trend of more ethenol in gas?

Ethanol is bad for our engines i think. so just stick to shell since it contains none!

No it isn't this isn't the 1980's anymore. Do you honestly think Toyota would design a car in 2012 that couldn't run on any ethanol??

I'm totally calm. I am just sharing my opinions. A friend of mine who has worked in petroleum products for many years says Shell V-Power has lots of additives put into it. Those additives although not specifically designed to, seem to be adding a bit a lubrication to the HPFP making it less noisy. Awesome choice for your first car =P.

It's not true. My mom's a manager of an Esso gas station and there is 0 ethanol in the gas. Esso and Shell are the only two as far as I know that don't have any ethanol. I'm still running the gas that the dealership put in it (I just got the car yesterday), and I'm planning on using either Esso or Shell 91, though I heard there's a Shell in the community next to mine here in Calgary that has 0% ethanol V-power 93!! Will definitely go look for it.

There are three Esso stations around my home and all three of them clearly state on the pumps that the fuel will contain up to 10% ethanol.
As for ethanol being bad for the car, it's been proven that there is zero harm being done if the HPFP is making the chirping noises, it's just a noise, so I wouldn't say that ethanol is bad for the engine at all. There's also been a couple reports of guys running e85 without the pump making noises, although most seem to make the noise.

I think I'm just going to continue on pumping the PC94 and see what happens. There's something about pumping 91 octane into the car that doesn't sit well with me because it clearly states the car should use 93 whenever possible.

I've filled every tank with Chevron 94 since I got the car back in June of 2012 and have never heard a chirping noise.
