OEM intake resonator mod idea

I want to remove the airbox resonator but utilize the resonator hole and connect tubing to it and duct it passenger side for more fresh air intake. Anyone see any cons doing this? It's a small hole but a little more air with a K&N drop in filter should help. Just wondering if this would create turbulence inside the box entry and hinder airflow altogether. Just an idea.

Depending on the velocities and pressures, you could actually end up with air leaving the airbox through that hole instead of sucking more in.

My wildest guess is that it'll create a turbulence within the box. This may ruin the smooth airflow that comes only from the front. A lot of air means nothing if it doesn't flow smoothly.

I think this is a waste of time as you pull cold air in from the front bumper already.

Will removing the resonator effect anything? is it a sound resonator or airflow resonator?

Unlike the sound tube this is not something I would second guess the design engineers on.

So after a few hours of research it seems removing the resonators, any or all 4 is not a good idea. If you have a CAI without a tune it seems there is no effect other than more intake noise. Anyway To keep a stable airflow through the OEM velocity stack (scoop) is designed to keep "air reversion" from happening, the resonators are key to this process.. Also the MAF is looking for a stock airstream at a certain temp, pressure and volume. A CAI with a tune specific for the CAI should be more effective. Keeping a consistent airflow before and after the airbox seems most important. So since i'm not going to be tuning my car for a long while it seems a simple K&N filter will help with a more consistent flow of air, pressure and intake temps without inducing unwanted turbulence. At least this is what I think this all means..lol

Sources;

What do air intake resonators do?

Has anyone deleted the resonator in the stock airbox?

Nice. Wondered this myself. It's ugly, but does its job. Good to know.

Anyone know if the TRD intake does or does not use the resonators? By the pics I see the TRD eliminates all but the velocity stack resonators. Maybe why it is so big compared to stock. Seems expensive but engineered perfect to the engine.

It's big by simple principle. Bigger area of filter = less pressure needed/less restriction to air flow divided over that area. But imho gains are a bit insufficient for cost.
