Stuck - Koni Shocks & TRD Spring install issue
Disclaimer - I've never installed my own coilovers and or springs/struts/shocks etc. First attempt here! Help would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver and I work 8:30 - 6 pm monday thru fridays and currently have no car
(tomorrows gonna be "one of those mondays")I attempted to install my koni shocks and TRD springs and I hit a dead end. I haven't touched the rears yet. I began with the fronts - successfully removed the front struts & springs and then I started putting in the koni's & TRD. As you can see in the pics below, once I hooked everything up, I was about to put on the wheels and I realized that the struts are still moving freely...If I put the wheel on, the weight of the wheel just pulls entire strut down...clearly I've missed something lol. Here's the video I used as a guide for installing in addition to the instructions that came with the shocks and springs (the koni shock instructions are pretty useless for newbies like me). [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C-ZUGi4R-Q&app=desktop"]Installation Video I used[/ame] ![]() ![]() How come the strut doesn't go through the hole above it into the engine bay? I used a jack to lift the strut up, which compressed the springs and sent the top of the strut into the engine bay...i figured that was a step in the right direction, but, how do I get the spring to stay compressed??? |

Um...did you take the nut and washer off the piston shaft before you tried pushing it through? Once you have the piston shaft threading through the mount the washer and nut would secure it on the top side...

Post a picture of the top of your Koni's. There is likely a nut holding the black piece on, you will need to compress the springs and remove that nut. You will then need to fully assemble the tophat/mount, spring and strut together using a nut/washer that threads onto the top of the koni strut.

1. Unbolt the sway bar from the strut
2. Take the top hat off the car 3. Bolt it on the strut 4. Mount the strut back to the top. 5. Bolt the sway bar back to the strut.

Ugh, I'm sorry but you need someone to look everythig over before you drive your car. No way I'd feel safe driving in that after this question

Your strut housings should be full reassembled before you put them back on the car.

Yeah I got the front end figured out. I'm waiting on assistance with someone who has experience before I attempt to touch the rears. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
