Generic OTR style intakes
Unsure if someone has done already, but it not, just pointing out then when considering a new intake, consider adapting a generic OTR style off the shelf intake that you see the V8 crowd running. Probably more only for the more serious folk, but certainly better than having a dog leg intake like the OEM setup.
When it was first suggested to me by a friend, I didn't think there would be room between the ac exchanger panel and the back of the crash beam, but there is. And my radiator is moved forward slightly as well. Cons are, the radiator support panel has a stiffening leg, the is right in the middle of the panel. It's there to provide strength for the bonnet latch. Both the leg and the latch need to be removed; meaning you have to run bonnet pins. The support panel itself may need a little trimming , depending on the OTR intake you choose. These types of intakes appear to give the best results on other platforms, when compared to pod filters, oem airboxes etc. Would be even better if you chose not to run the crash beam, alas I can't do that in NZ. Can that fit between the hood and the top front beam? Where do you put the hood latch? What kind of engine is that in the pics you show? That doesn't look like a boxer!

Also I would not mind seeing a more afrodable version other than the one posted for 1300 bucks. Wonder if this is something simple enough to render that I could have done on a 3D printer to prototype or if any gains are actually worth it over whats already available. |
