FR-S/BRZ Generic in design?
So today I got into the discussion about my two cars with my co-workers. Since I own both an FR-S and S2000. They all seem to be more for the S2000 vs my FR-S, based on looks alone, although I believe my paint scheme, design seems to be what has them looking. My S2000 has a black stripe in the Middle and its spa yellow. I love it, although I didnt put the stripe on it, and ironically a song came out later called Black and Yellow. Anywhos, I was told that the FR-S seems generic in design. My thought on this was its a tribute car, it might take cues from other sports cars that toyota had, but its main theme was that was a tribute to the AE86, ironically its chassis code has none of the above... . So does anyone else feel its generic as well or heard it called generic other than myself?

well I wouldn't say it's generic, toned down is more like it IMHO because it's concepts were extremely different. I think I looks great honestly nothing really generic about this car at all. Now in argument for the s2000, it is a timeless design, it's gonna look great like always because of the classic roadster portions, the lights etc. And dont' worry lots of people call this generic Top Gear, some other reviewers. But I'm sure if it wasn't somewhat generic it wouldn't be affordable, I mean it's a 25K car compared to a 34K car. 10K more is alot for the styling department.

I don't think all the people who ask if it is a Maserati, Porsche, or Ferrari consider it generic.

I think it's generic.
It blends in, it's nowhere near as recognizable as a Miata or Mustang, direct cheaper competitors. The S2000 is way more recognizable and captivating than the Toyobaru is. |

It's been toned down from the concept, but it's still got pretty classic GT lines and will age very well.
I don't think you can call any sports car "generic". That's a term best used to describe sedans.

As far as the twins being "generic," the constant questions that I get about the car as far as what it is, how fast it is and is it really a scion, beg to differ. The looks are striking and the car is just as enjoyable and fun to drive at the track as it is on the street! The car has A LOT of personality as well as a strong sports car heritage, which I find really cool. If you look at the high hp car to FRS/BRZ thread you will see a LOT of really nice cars being given up for a $25,000 toyobaru. That in itself is AMAZING to me. Muscle cars, M3's, porsche's ect being given up for a toyota/subaru and near all of us are happy with our choice. /rant |

I believe Top Gear said its not a particularly special looking car. Don't quote me though.

It gets a lot of attention from the nongearhead peeps. I wouldn't call that generic styling.
