Who made that turbo that was NOT IN FRONT of motor?

just toying with ideas here, what vendor made that kit that did not place a turbo in front of the front axle? I'm averse to superchargers and turbos that's place weight in front of the axle. This rules out all ac and most turbos

Pretty sure someone on here has an STS rear mount turbo set up.

why are you so against a little more weight in front of the axle?

I get the weight thing, but longer piping/more heat/difficult to work on is pretty much what you're left with, which imo, is worse than extra weight up front.

Not that heat is any better in front of the engine lol.
On that note, I don't recall who, but someone made a turbo near/at the overpipe area.

I saw a turbo setup on a BRZ that was in the REAR like behind the rear bumper.

That keeps the heat out of the engine bay, and the tube run back to the engine was so long that you dont need an intercooler.

Found it: http://ststurbo.com/project_brz.php

Yeah there ya go. Thats the STS kit I was talking about.

Seems pretty inefficient though with all that extra piping.

I dont know why it woud be inefficient?
Maybe if the exhaust gases get to cool with that long run to the rear?

And there should be less loss than with an intercooler as far as the intake charge goes.

Now getting road grime in my air filter sounds like a really bad idea however....

I am just waiting for the day that we can buy the fully electric turbo.
Then the generator portion can go in the back like this, and the compressor up front with just wires between the two.

Ptuning has it sitting near the tranny, sts rear mount. Avo is low mounted compared to full and such.

Although, I think the lag would be unbearable with the STS.

Rear mount turbos are a dumb idea IMO. Why add extra weight with piping, slower exhaust gas velocity due to cooling, and increased lag???

I would like to have 2 cars, one with a rear mount turbo and one with a front. Then have people drive them and see if they can actually notice. Not saying there isn't a difference but for all the speculation and preconceived notions, hardly anyone are making comments based on person experience, just guessing.

There are pros and cons to every setup and obviously STS believes the pro's are strong enough to build these kits, even patent the concept.
