Amsoil Trans/Diff Changeover
I'm approaching 20k miles on the frs and I decided to go with a brand that Ive been using for years.
I the transmission I put: Manual Transmission & Trans axle Gear Lube 75W-90 and in the rear diff I put: Severe Gear 75 90 all Synthetic stuff. The rear diff was dirty and needed changing, but the transmission wasn't bad at all. After observing the way the transmission shifts I must say I never thought I'd be as regretful as I am now with a simple fluid change. When cold, the trans is VERY hard to shift into second and sometimes notchy. Its very irritating, however shifts fine when warmed up. Knowing this, I'm probably going to change back to factory fluid in the transmission. I was just writing this thread to let others know, if you go with amsoil in your manual transmission, expect hard shifts.

I've had zero issues running Amsoil in the transmission. I do have almost 10k miles on the oil now. Maybe my transmission wasn't that bad. It is definitely right compared to my old 95.

How many miles do you have on the new fluid? Give it some miles and I think it will feel better. No 75w-90 will be perfectly smooth when cold but supposedly that's the nature of these transmissions.

Give it a bit of time. If it doesn't work out for you, try a lighter weight oil like a 75W80 such as Pentosin, or Redline's MTL. If you like Amsoil products, they also have a lighter alternative. Redline also has a 75W85 (MT-85) if you think 75W80 is too much of a change. If you really want to stick with the recommended 75W90, many people have reported good results with Motul.

Thanks for the advice.
I just put the fluid in about 900 miles ago. I'll give it some time and take in consideration the other fluids available.

I would report that I have had the exact opposite results! I used to have issues with going into second when the transmission is cold but ever since my recent tranny and diff oil change, I've never been happier!

I have about 1600 miles on the trans fluid and its shifting a little better than it used to. I still have resistance when the fluid is cold going threw the gears and down shifting is still pretty annoying but once it warms up its better.
I'll leave it in there for a little while longer, I have some people telling me to go back to the factory fluid if it didn't have any issues shifting with it in, which I never had a issue until I changed over to amsoil.

I have motul 300 in mine. I never had any issues in cold though. I find that if you shift very deliberately into second when its cold it goes right in. No need to force it, just move the lever firmly. If you try to ease it in you're going to have a more difficult time.
The difference between the motul and the stock fluid was noticeable. The lever action was much smoother, especially from 1-2.
