Should I be concerned
Hey Guys, I need some opinions on this. I bought a perrin crank pulley and just installed it following Perrins guidelines and the DIY guide on this forum. I torqued the bolt down to 33 ft/lbs and inspected the pulley to ensure it was sitting flush when I realized that the bolt wasnt completely centered in the opening for it in the pulley. I took the bolt out, re-seated the pulley, and torued down to 33 ft/lbs and it looked the same. It is alligned properly and all the components behind it are in place. What do you think? Should I be worried??

Turn the engine on and watch it spin. Watch for wobble.

You should replace that bolt every time you pull it out. The bolt actually stretches when torqued.

I havent read about anyone replacing it yet? I probs should look into it. It took a lot of force to get it off. I don't think perrin says to get a new one but I'll double check.

Like @Candlejack said turn the engine on and check for abnormal wobble. You should re-torque it after about 50 miles to ensure everything is good.

Yikes, 33 is to low. As far as I remember should be 90 something for crank pulley bolt.

all bolts stretch ever so slightly when properly torqued, that's what creates and maintains your clamp load. no need to replace unless specified. now if you over torque and the bolt is yielded(stretched beyond elastic region) then it will begin to neck then ultimately fail.

Sorry guys should have clarified more. Directions say torque to 33 to check alignment then do a final torquing to 94.
It has been torque to 94 ft/lbs with a brand new torque wrench, ANNNDDDDD there is an issue.... ![]() It is ever so slightly spattering oil on my exhause manifold because you can smell it. The pulley was clean and is oily now with some black particles on it, which i am assuming is the belt... My auto tensions is bouncing ever so slightly, but I do not know if this behavior is normal. I guess the best route of action would be to overnight a bolt, and reinstall with that. Would it be worth my while to back the bolt out, re seat the O-ring again, and re-torque the bolt I am using? Or would that only stress the bolt further? I have all the tools on me and can easily do. I will most likely have my car towed home anyways. |

According to this the tensioner is suppose to bob a little bit, which make sense in a way, so alignment of the crank pulley which is good. So one of two things come to mind. The Oil seal O-ring unseated when I pushed the pulley into place - or- the bolt faced to much force and has twisted. |
