Rear window still fogs up after strut caps were installed

Last spring after purchasing the car, I noticed the rear window would fog up pretty quickly no matter the conditions outside. After peering around this forum, I found that a lot of dealers were forgetting to place the rear strut plugs before delivering the car to the customer. Well mine was one of those cars. So the dealer went ahead, installed the plugs after a month or so of rainy spring driving.

For the last 6 months or so, the car was parked in my garage till the snow melted away and we got a good rain to wash away all the road salt.

Well the window still fogs up!

So now all I can think about is how much rust or mold is growing in the rear hatch

Strut plugs? Are you talking about the holes on top of the rear shocks? Technically, the car isn't supposed to have anything there. The body plugs that are part of PDI are the ones under the car in the rocker panel area.

Is that fog on the inside of the glass or outside? If so, do you have any moisture in your taillight lenses? If you don't have the updated taillight seals it may be entering through that area.

That being said, I just replaced my seals due to taillight moisture, but I've never had condensation on the inside of the rear glass.

Edit: Also check under your spare tire and see if there's evidence of water pooling up there, if you haven't done so. Sometimes you can see a dust trail that will point you in the right direction.

There's an old thread about this issue. It's leftover residue from something on the glass from assembly. Get some glass cleaner to clean it and it should go away.

Good point. I was assuming it's moisture, but it could be "vinyl fog".

Clean it real well with glass cleaner and paper towels until a dry towel doesn't want to slide across the glass, i.e., it's hard to wipe due to friction. If that fixes your problem, that's what it was.

Ah yes, it was the body plugs I was talking about. Wasn't sure of the technical name. The fog is on the inside. I will give the glass cleaner a try.

Thanks!
