Square tires on staggered wheels?
Thinking of running 245/35R18 square tires on 18x8.5F/18x9R staggered wheels. Advantage is I can rotate the tires front to back granted I have cheap access to a tire mounting machine. Disadvantage is it will have wider contact patch in rear but won't induce as much understeer as a truly staggered tire setup. Sort of a balance between form (wider rear wheels to fill out rear fenders) and function (square tires).
Opinions?

You're also adding unnecessary weight to the front.

8.5-9? Barely gonna make a difference to filling out the fender OR the contact patch. If it were me and those were the 2 optional sizes, id run square 8.5 rims with rear spacers to "fill out the fenders". What ur thinking of doing gives u none of the benefits of staggered with ALL of the negatives.. (Cant rotate w out remount, same tread width, heavier rear wheels, barely)

Thanks for the replies... a little background on what prompted me to start this thread. I inquired with the manufacturer and their demo car is running 18x8.5 front and 18x9 rear with square 245/35R18 tires. And they specifically recommended 245/35R18 for both wheel sizes. They make light wheels (lighter than Volks) with a focus on track performance but their setup struck me as odd.

Just found out Moto-san of Club4AG had his FR-S running 18x8 F / 18x9 R with 225s all around.
