LED Switchback question.
Just recently got my switchback bulbs for the front turn signal and an amber led for the rear. I installed them using DIY thread:http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20290 (searched it up) took me about 2 hours to finish both rear and front turn signals and tested if the bulbs were working fine. Everything seemed fine, switchback would be on white when on parked and when headlights are on, it would turn amber when I signaled to either side, hazards were working perfect too. The bulb would also turn back to white after signal and hazard. Bulb ok right? So I moved to on to the rear (thats what she said). The rear was never a problem. After everything was screwed back into place, I was ready to drive around. I tested the lights one more time and things just went down from there. I signaled to the right and the switchback blinked amber and stayed amber. The left all of a sudden turned amber got stuck on that color without me signaling to that side. So I flipped the bulbs after reading through threads of people with led bulbs problems. Same results. I even tried timing the lights on how long they would stay white cause sometimes the bulbs would just switch color by themselves. Sometimes they would stay white but as soon as I use the signal lights they would get stuck to amber. Had to switch my front bulbs back to OEM.
Does anyone know a solution here or did I get a messed up bulb? Also I didn't pull the pins out on the bulb as suggested by the DIY. Is this really necessary? I will try to do an install again tomorrow and pull the pin but as I read through the DIY in the forum some of them don't pull the pin. |

sounds like a bad set of lights you got. did you install the hyper flash relay too? just curious. see if you can get replacement on all of them including the hyper flash relay and do it again. also, what brand of LEDS did you get or who did you get them from?
good luck

Yeah I did get the relay for the bulbs too and my rear tail lights works properly, no hyper blinking. I even tried the switchback without the relay same result but of course with the hyperflash. The place I got them(relay, front and rear bulbs) from was www.highperformancebulbs.com which was recommended to me by a member from the Tri-State FT-86 owner club. Their customer service were fine until I emailed them about the problem they haven't replied back but I'm still not panicking because I just e-mailed them last night around 11 pm so it's understandable that they haven't replied yet. But I'm hoping to hear from them soon.
I tried installing them this morning again but this I slightly pulled the pins out. Same problem. Would work fine then the problem would occur again so I have up. |

Keep us updated , on a side note, I got my LED kits from Diode Dynamics. Works flawlessly, and they have different level of brightness , of course the brighter it is , cost goes up.

I've actually looked at DD and Hidpowerhouse for LEDs. If things go further south from here I'm actually going to order from either places. Specially when it comes to the HID kits and DRLs.

Try an aftermarket flasher relay or load resistors. Some cars like the Kia Optima require load resistors to allow the bulbs to work properly. I haven't seen this happen with a lot of FRS or BRZ's but wouldn't hurt to try it.

I have a relay that I purchased with the bulbs. It helps prevent the hyperflashing. I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing. I believe it's a CF-18 relay.
