AT fluid metal shaving?

This post is primarily asking about the amount of metal shaving in the automatic transmission fluid vs other components.

Does the automatic transmission have much metal shaving during the break-in period? I heard people reporting quite a bit of metal shaving in diff fluid during the first couple thousand km or miles. Do you think that'll be the case for the AT fluid?

i'm gonna get my engine oil and diff oil changed, wondering if i should get my AT fluid changed as well? It looks like changing the AT fluid is a bit more work than MT fluid. I have about 4800km(3000 miles) lots of heavy traffic driving.

Your will get some metalic paste on the magnetic drain plug.. From the clutch packs.. You don't have gears per say.. Most autos use a planetary gear set.
So you don't need to change it out early. I just did a change on my wife's car after 60K miles.. Looked fine.. Just the normal accumulation of paste on the plug.. I would leave it be..

Depending on your driving style, I would consider a B&M ATF Cooler in conjunction with Redline High Temp ATF. Very Very effective in protecting your AT. We built a road race impreza with an AT and used this setup on a car that started with 120k miles on the ticker. When we sold it we had put on about 50k track miles and the trans was still running well. We did the equivalent of a 7 hour enduro with it at Watkins Glen during one of our race/DE weekends.

If you don't drive it very aggressively or sit in a lot of traffic, wait until the 30k major service and just do a drain/fill with the RL High Temp ATF at that point.
