swaybar preload
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone can school me on endlink preload. I just installed RSR Sports-i coilovers and love the handling it gives me. It would handle great UNTIL a certain point when traction control would kick in for seemingly no reason (I am certain the car had tons of grip remaining). I am guessing that the front sway bars are being preloaded and are causing trouble. Is there any way to tell for sure if this is the problem?
I might have not torqued the endlink correctly. I used a torque wrench, but I didn't have any way to hold the nut while I turned. If it helps any, this is my sway bar with the car wheel turned into the car: https://imgur.com/a/d99jNog Thanks Last edited by degozaru; 06-10-2020 at 04:28 PM. |

If you have an adjustable endlink, you can get the car on a flat surface unbolt them, and take out any preload.
But before you get into that, has the car been corner balanced? Might want to do that first if not. |

Usually you need adjustable endlinks for going low.

Is your alignment okay? Got a printout?
Similar funky handling on left and right turns? Any noises? What you can do is unbolt the endlinks from the strut with the car in the air and then lower the car to the ground. Now see where the endlinks line up compared to the strut mounting points. If they're not close, that's an issue and you might want to consider adjustable endlinks. - Andrew |

The traction control is more conservative than your racist grandpa, it is not a reliable indicator of any issues imho.

I found the traction control was more sensitive if the wheels and steering wheel were not pointing straight after suspension work. I fixed the alignment and the hypersensitivity went away.

If you're doing coilovers at the same time, do them first, then get a corner balanced alignment, THEN adjust your swaybar links for zero preload.
If no coilovers, then just adjust your links for zero preload, preferably on the alignment rack so you know you're level. And if you're still on stock endlinks, then this question is academic, at best...

...and it should go without saying that whoever does your corner balancing should also be disconnecting your swaybars BEFOREHAND...
