Quick Drain Plug
https://www.killerbmotorsport.net/fu...-1-5.html.html
I found this quick drain plug for the FA20 and at first though it would be a good idea. After realizing it has no magnet im not so sure anymore. Do you think its a good idea or not? |

I've had that exact same plug installed for about 40,000 miles now. Never had any issues with it and I drive it on track, in the winter, etc. I don't believe the stock plugs are magnetic so not sure what the benefits would be there?

While this is admittedly an extremely unlikely freak incident....
I once autocrossed a car with one of these. I hit a cone that remained wedged under the car. When I hit the brakes to stop the car, the cone opened up the fumoto valve, draining all the oil from a running car. |

I think that the more important questions are:
1. Why consider a magnet? 2. Why consider a magnet on a valve? I'm asking leading questions to gauge interest in the conversation.

I installed Fumotos on several cars in the last couple of yrs, love them.
That autocross thing got me worried but I have the black thingy. I agree, why magnet? You do have an oil filter, right? |

Magnet because the oil goes from the oil pan through the oil pump into the oil filter. Ie the pump see's all of the garbage.
I think im going to just mount an external magnet and run the quick drain plug. |

The way forward. Makes oil changes simples.
Magnet valve? Yeah, no. If you absolutely need magnets (for whatevers) put some on the outside of the filter after installation. Braces and belt.

The point of the magnet is to catch ferrous materials floating in the oil. -_-
be it, it is pretty funny how you guys describe it |

I haven't had any problems with my Fumoto valves. I've got one on this car and one on my wife's GTI. Makes oil changes really simple and quick. Just be careful if you hit any debris or scrape your undercarriage.
