Squeaky clutch pedal. Where to lube?
Hi all,
My 2017 has recently developed a squeaky clutch pedal. I'm pretty certain that the noise is coming from the clutch pedal assembly itself, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on where/how to lube it. I previously a really bad and loud squeak that could be heard from outside, and ended up having the throwout bearing replaced under warranty. This noise is much quieter, and localized to the footwell. |

Quick & dirty: from @Ultramaroon 1. Detach the slave cylinder. Leave the hydraulics alone. 2. Remove the dust boot from the fork. 3. Reach down behind the fork with a finger and feel for the pivot. It's going to be tight because of the retaining clip. 4. Squeeze a decent glob of Lucas Red & Tacky #2 in there with your finger. 5. Jiggle the fork to distribute the grease as much as possible. It'll work in more on its own. 6. Put a dab of grease in the top pivot where the slave pin goes. 7. Reassemble. This is a common clutch mechanism squeak. humfrz |

My '17 BRZ and other higher mileage 17+ cars I've come across developed a squeak on the clutch fork pivot -- It isn't the throwout bearing if you can still hear the squeak when the car is off. Be generous when greasing and actuate the clutch fork a few times to ensure coverage. The squeak will come back if you use white lithium grease spray, so use something more robust.

If the noise is coming from the clutch fork, will I be able to hear it distinctly from the engine bay?

This post is a little old now, but I finally figured it out.
This is a video of a WRX that was having the same issue. I was skeptical that it would work, because the 86 doesn't have a rubber boot like in the video, but sure enough after smearing a bunch of grease on this ball joint looking thing the squeaking was gone! |

That's just wrong. Please see the service manual for more info. You are applying grease to the open end of the master cylinder. The actual working parts are buried underneath that washer and retaining clip.
edit: I was wrong! Maybe that IS a source of noise! I had even posted an image from the manual years ago in that thread I found below. ~facepalm~

Not wrong at all depending upon the source of the squeak. MY squeak was the shaft of the master and putting some light grease on the shaft and working it down into the seal did indeed eliminate it. It has also worked for at least 3 other people I walked through it.

I had a pedal squeak and used a non drippings garage door lubricant up under the dash and stopped it.
edit: more like a creaking of an old door than a squeak. |
