Have had a number of people ask me about overheating issues during the summer, so I wrote this up, hope it can help a few people out.

I haven't clicked yet but everything this guy posts is the same. Nothing useful other than a website to visit.

Actually, the reference is a good primer for those totally new to the automotive cooling system world.

I put everything on my site and link to it simply because it's a lot easier to make edits and changes to one place. It's also considerably better to write, edit, etc. the content on my site because I have control over the CSS and structure.

For me to re-write it, upload photos, and stylize it for Facebook, forums (vBulletin, etc.), my site, and other formats would be very time consuming.

Forums also don't have the best readability, and with me posting the entire article on the forum it also becomes the property of the forum.

So there's a specific set of reasons why I generally post a link.

I could write a brief overview and discussed topics if people prefer?

You have everything on your site because you can make money off referral sales. Plus, clicks/visits to your site increases visibility and makes your info look more appealing on search engine results.

At the end of the day, the specific reasons why you post only a link is because it's the only way to ensure you get paid. I get it, no need to explain too much.

I could get the same benefits by posting the entire / redacted articles on the forum as well. I could build a much bigger following in less time by doing exactly that.

I care about my articles and try to update them regularly.

Frankly, the blog doesn't make me anything. In fact, it costs me a fair bit of money (opportunity costs and hosting) to write articles and syndicate them.

I could write about another topic and make far more money, but I enjoy writing about car stuff and honestly hope the articles help others in the community.

I suppose I could blanket the site in a dozen ad blocks? LOL. That $2.00 / mo. will pay off, haha.

How much do you get paid by Amazon for the Amazon affiliate links you use? I've always been curious about them but never really looked into it much. You mention the blog doesn't make you anything so is the time used to generate the affiliate links even worth it? Or are you just talking about net gain?

If you participated in discussions and linked your materials to actual questions posed then you would at least appear to be attempting to help people.
As is your history of just posting links to random topics reeks of spam for profit.
Just how many forums do you try to "help" in?

I'm missing how he's making money from this.

Imo, posting articles, or valuable snippets from your articles with a link for those who want to read more isn't problematic as that's a value add as long as you're doing it within the context of a relevant thread.

ex: "My car is overheating, where do I start with troubleshooting?"
You could post a snippet from your article and the link, and maybe a brief 1 sentence explanation of the most relevant part or a summary of another paragraph for context.

As it stands, I even turned off my ad blocker and didn't see anything that would make him money. Is that just me?

There are multiple links that send you to Amazon to buy stuff.

Even if you don't buy anything automotive related but don't close your browser (i.e. at work), if you stay within Amazon any purchases you make will give the referrer credit on purchases eligible for commission.

As for the rest of what you posted, see the previous reply. I wouldn't care but this guy just comes out of nowhere to post articles that is on his site. Good info but next time at least somewhat try to participate in the forum?

Yeah participation is my primary beef with this form of posting.

Maybe the article I poked through didn't have a link, or I just didn't see one. Valid!
