Sick of waiting?

Hi All

A tale of the unexpected.

Are you sick of waiting? I was too. I have a black GTS manual on order. 12 to 18 months. People spend less time in prison than that. So I got busy phoning dealers. Actually almost every dealer in Victoria and some out of state. What I found is that a lot of country dealers don’t have any customer orders. None. So you could be the first in line. For example Horsham, VIC doesn’t have any customer orders. If you place an order now you will get there next allocation in the colour/type you chose. Another dealer told me they had heaps of orders just like in the city. When pushed he said the had two. Two! Ha ha. Anyway, the point is get calling and you will find the waiting lists may be less if you put a order in with a country dealer. I think they get a lot of tire kickers so explain your situation. Tell them you want to order now and that you can give them CC details for deposit. Then they become very helpful. Whilst I was talking to one dealer about his inventory and customer orders placed (of which he had none) he says "oh we have an auto GTS that just came in". Not assigned to a customer! I was like. “WTF?”. He said “they are more interested in Prados and Landcruisers round here mate”. I said “sold”! In five minutes I had put down $10k. I can pick up tomorrow.

Still got a black manual on order I can decide what to do with in 12 – 18 months.

Lesson 1. Don’t take no for an answer
Lesson 2. Tell the dealer your predicament and indicate you are ready to buy sight / unseen now
Lesson 3. Get them to look at the order inventory as they often don’t know for sure off the top of their heads
Lesson 4. Persistence pays off

Cheers

P.S. I almost got an Orange GTS from WA the same way but that fell through yesterday.

Cool story bro! lol jk.

So your making a switch the auto? have you test driven it yet? just asking because yes it's a good auto but a lot of manual drivers have complained that it has lacked the 'feel' of a sports car.

But I do find it strange that they didn't tell you straight out that they had the car in available now.

Ha ha, Yeah. I’m not sure why he didn’t. I guess because I didn’t ask him if he had any in stock but just assumed he didn’t. I have driven the auto. It is very very good. I’m happy with the auto. I was kind of indifferent anyway tot eh gear box. Not much of a boy racer anymore being almost 40 and my girlfriend can drive it too.

I don't think dealers are still being allocated cars randomly like that. There have been auto GTS and manual GT up for grabs since launch, personally I'll wait but congrats!

My mate did the same thing as me and is getting a White GT Manual

Yes, I have driven the auto, and reckon its very good too and I am almost 40 as well. I still insisted to order manual one even there was a GTS auto ready for delivery in 2 weeks when I signed the contract because I think its not fair to the left side of my body for not able to enjoy this great car. LOL

Now I have to wait till October the earliest to get mine. The manual gearbox better be good.

Pretty good strategy!

The only thing is that as I understand it (just what one dealer told me) the allocations they get flowing through are random, so in some ways the presumably lower flow of cars going to those country dealers might offset being at the front of the queue a bit. But if there are double digit order lists in the city then yeah probably way in front!

Maybe the go is to spread 10 $1k deposits all over the country and then you've really increased your odds of getting one fast! :P

This was going to be my next plan (maybe 3) but just make sure the deposits are fully refundable. Just some info from one dealer I spoke too. He say Toyota have 168,000 orders worldwide and an estimated production run of 100,000 units per year. I guess that is were they get the 12 to 18 months from. 168/100 = approximately 1.5 years or 18 months)

The 100,000 units per year is 86/fr-s AND brx production capability. The factory in Ota produces all of the vehicles and it's maximum capacity is 100,000 a year. Not 100,000 toyota
A good mate of mine did something similar and is likely getting a silver or grey GT manual in the next week or two.. Asshole haha :P
He is just finalising finance now.

The huge waiting list is for GTS Manuals, also the GT but not as long as GTS...... If ur willing to get an Auto its well known u have a good chance of finding one... Especially if its a GT...

I did a similar thing... It was starting to look like my GTS Manual that I ordered early in the year wouldn't be here before Christmas so I got on the 'blower'. Found a REALLY helpful salesman in a country area who told me where there was one (in the colour I wanted) unallocated... And it wasn't a country dealership.... WOW, rang the dealership & it was still available. It was a CANCELLED ORDER!!!!! I'LL TAKE IT. So now instead of months waiting, I am now counting the days!! Just hope the ship don't sink.... LOL

Anyway, it pays to ring around. I got lucky with a VERY helpful salesman AND I was prepared to travel to get it too.

I've only tested the GT AT and I was a bit disappointed. I've got the AT GTS on order but I'm still debating whether I should have gone the MT way. Unfortunately I have to drive 25km (1 hr) through peak traffic in to the city for work

I'm test driving the GTS AT next week so hopefully with paddles it's more engaging. Just wondering what your opinion of that was? If I'm disappointed I might sell my car in a few months and jump on the waiting list for a MT 86/BRZ.

GTS with the paddles is much more engaging. It will hold the gear in full manual mode. There are pretty cool too looking too. I don’t know who would buy a GT Auto - no LSD as well. I’m like you. I’m keeping my manual on order so if doesn’t satisfy I can change 12 - 18 months.
