looks good. god those car wrapping guys make crazy money for something we can all do with enough time and patience. I really like the look ive seen matte white and it looks great as well. The only thing that bugged me about they way they did it is they did things in one big piece. I would have individually wrapped everything because if one piece starts to peel say bye bye to the rest of it. for example the hood I wouldve opened it up and wrapped it on the inside as well same goes with doors and fenders to minimize peel.
looks good though ^_^

Excuse my noobness, but what is wrapping? Is it an attempt to keep the exterior in mint condition or something?

Hawx:
Wrapping is literally wrapping a vinyl like material over the car. It can be taken off later, it is essentially a giant ''skin tight'' sticker. Higher quality wraps look like paint or better but they cost as much or more than paint. Many wraps are flat colors or highly reflective like chrome or gold. Search google for gold Ferrari's, most of those are wrapped in a tacky looking highly reflective gold wrap.

I like your time lapse video. The wrapping def works with your car. I'm not one who often likes flat black but i like it alot. Well done.

Heh, wrapping isn't for me personally. I'm of the opinion that, I paid money for the car in a certain paint job, I'd like to look at it etc...
Wrapping does look cool though, your car looks evil with it, and that goes a long way in my book! Very dirty and therefore sexy! The only issue I have is a burning desire to draw lewd images on a wrapped car (matt black ones and even my own) in white chalk... the child in me, moving on from black boards!

CSOCSO, just a few questions:
- I know price varies based on the type of wrap used, but any general idea on the range something like this would be? - How long will the wrap last before it bubbles and needs to be redone? - What is the general up keep? Can you wash the car like normal? - Do you have to let the DMV know that you changed the color of the car in case you get pulled over and there is a discrepancy on the police officers computer and what he sees? |

Great if you want a matte finish, and want some protection from keying douchebags, but for the cost of a decent paint job? And it only lasts a few years? I dunno... Looks nice though.

Uhmmm.. NO! I'm in the biz for 5 years now and you wont be able to wrap around complex shapes even if i let you practice with a tons of material for a month! The mustang is not my car, I'm on of the guys who wrapped it and i have worked with several people before and tried to teach them tricks and stuff because sometimes even experienced people mess up panels that needs to be replaced. Sometimes even I mess up panels. But people without experience? I would say with between 1-2 month practice I would let you work next to me and i have to keep an eye on you. But ONLY if you can pick it up easy. Besides that, EVERY car shape / job throws challenges at you. I'm working with a guy who does this for a 1 now with me but i still wont let him do a wrap like this by himself. Bottom line: Its not that easy, We had many bmw and lexus owner come around to let us wrap roof or hood in flat or cf because they tried and they failed. "I would have individually wrapped everything because if one piece starts to peel say bye bye to the rest of it" Im sorry. I don't really understand what you trying to say here. Nothing starts to peel while wrapping and it doesn't matter how we wrap it if the fender starts to peel the back door wont fall of because of it. We lay it one piece but everything is cut and tucked. At the end you cant tell how it was done. It looks the same does not matter if we lay it one by one or 1 huge sheet. "I wouldve opened it up and wrapped it on the inside as well same goes with doors and fenders to minimize peel." As you can see at the end of the video i wrapped it inside the door jams. Bumpers are wrapped all the way behind the light and grille since i took everything off the car. Fender has an odd shape. If i want to wrap ALL the way inside i would have to stretch more/ more stretch = bigger chance to peel back. besides that we did wrap inside. If u standing next/front of the hood you would see the vinyl goes inside, wrapping around the fender. Not too much but you wont see it unless you really start looking at the crack or open the hood. |

$2-3k - How long will the wrap last before it bubbles and needs to be redone? It will never start bubble. If you take good care of it i would say 4 years on the florida sun. It would start cracking up on the roof and hood. BUT. I have never seen a 4 year flat black wrap since nobody wanted that back than / there was no 3m vinyl like this. So we will see in a few years. Btw i wonder how does it withstand the harsh FL sun if you wax it. Since i know about ZERO ppl who tried to keep his/her wrap look nice and detail the wrap the same way they would do it with the real paint. 98% of my job is commercial , business related wraps. Only a few ppl come around for some custom stuff. Next week we gonna wrap a Hmmer h2 in full CF! ![]() - What is the general up keep? Can you wash the car like normal? We do not recommend those gas station car washes. Normal hand wash; YES! Spray wax and regular wax is ok I guess, but we do not have too much experience with this on a long run.... I might get a hood from the junkyard and wrap it and to a few year long experiment with waxes. ![]() - Do you have to let the DMV know that you changed the color of the car in case you get pulled over and there is a discrepancy on the police officers computer and what he sees? I don't really know about other states. In FL we don't really have problem with this. HELL... when i got pulled over with my silver scion and the cop put the wrong model name and color on the ticket the judge didn't care.... AT ALL |
