Hi all New member here(mates are sick of me talking about the FT-86)
Hey everyone!!!!! New member... All my mates are fed up with me finding any chance to talk about the FT-86.... Im a Holden boy growing up however always been a huge lover of the AE-86, the R32 and R34 and probably my favourite the Silvia S15.... Favourite motor being the 2JZ though... Im 25 living in Perth, Western Australia and will be trading my 6litre ute in for the toyota as soon as its available... Putting a deposit down as soon as Toyota are willing to accept one hahahaha..... Anyway great to find this site and look forward to discussing everything with like minded people... It is my goal to find the right contacts to make sure im one of the first to own this machine in Australia... So please help if u can hahaha.... THANKS...
First question.... When will it be confirmed about the motor going in??? FT-86GOD,

Do u guys reckon toyota have dropped any ideas for a re-release of the Supra and put all there energy in this FT??? I know there was talk but then the FT popped up and nothing has been said since...???
Also even though the engine specs are not confirmed will it be toyotas drive to have the FT capable of exceeding the supra IV in aftermarket modifications?? Also worth a mention is if it would compare in high speed handling??? Its going to be $30,000 less than the supra which is alot of money.... |

The MKIV supra has been around since 1993 so it will be a while before the 86 will exceed or even come close to the amount of aftermarket mods that the supra has. Also I would imagine this car is going to handle better than a supra (at least a stock one) being that it is more light weight and has a lower center of gravity thanks to the boxer engine not to mention all of the 21st century technology we have nowadays going into this car that wasn't in the supra.

New cars are going to have trouble competing with the handling of some older cars simply due to the weight gain. Granted the power makes up for a lot of the difference in acceleration but suspensions haven't improved drastically in the last 20 years.
In the early 90's the Nissan Silvia came out with a fully independent Multi-link suspension and there still isn't a lot of room for improvements in the handling department for static suspensions especially when driver comfort is often more important to Automakers in the US than handling. Nothing capable of making up for a 1/4 ton weight gain. I've also found that 2.0l Aluminum blocks tend to weigh about as much as the old ironblock 1.6liters like the Honda D series. Thankfully the engine is probably not going to heavier than the old 4age and the boxer design allows it to be balanced and compact so it can be farther back. I still have my reservations but still believe the FT-86 is going to be a very good balance for a compact sports car. |
