Who has had to change their pinion bearings with final drive mod??

Hello,

I am trying to change my final drive gear to a 4.556 and am wondering who has had to change their pinion bearings? I see it can be re-used and wondering if I should just go that route. My car is a 2013 with 24k miles if that matters, Thanks!

The price difference with getting the pinion bearing is huge, it would add $120 to the total

Well, I can see we dont have the same idea of what huge means (120 huge? really?). I had to get mine changed for a 4.88 final drive. I know someone with the 4.65 from MFactory who didnt. So there`s that, I guess it depens on who installed it and what kind of final drive you are using.

Sometimes the pinion bearing comes off just fine but we typically replace them anyway mostly for peace of mind. It's a lot of work and money to go back through there and replace it again if you find out shortly after break in that it's failing.

Got it guys. I was just under the impression it wasn't always necessary if it comes off fine, only from reading the final drive threads on this site. I will for sure get a new oem set to go with it. Thank you all

There is your problem, the DIY is a pretty shade tree mechanic way to go about it. Does it work, maybe. Is there a more professional way to do it, yes. Its very important to note that not all brand's and ratio's install the same, primarily when it comes to setting pinion height.
