Strange noise from handbrake

So as the tile says, when on a slight decline (car shifts forward) car makes a creaking noise when the weight of the car is transfered to from the disk brakes to the handbrake.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

When my car is in the air with handbrake on. I can turn the wheel (rear wheel) about 1.5". Maybe that is what you are hearing. I dunno, lol. I always thought that was weird on my car but the hand brake holds fine so never thought to ask about it.

I don't think I've heard the noise before it just showed up today.

What you are describing sounds normal. If you are using the handbrake to stop motion then you will get a clunk/creak. This is particularly evident when doing handbrake turns.

I've heard this noise before from handbrakes though I don't know that I've heard it from the BRZ. Just the sound of the brake pad (or in this case the shoe) being pushed against the rotor (drum for the 86s) and the wheel rotating ever so slightly before it holds.
Wouldn't worry me if I heard it from my car but I'm subbed anyway to see if someone who knows these systems better thinks it's a problem.

+1

Nothing wrong with it. Even when optimally adjusted, mine makes a loud clunk. Inexpensive mechanism. Gets the job done.

Just to be clear the noise happens when the car is stationery and I take my foot of the foot brake, while the hand brake is up.

Yes, you were clear in your OP. There's some backlash. It's normal.

Yea, that is normal for most ordinary cars, don't worry your car won't roll away.
