RPMs not dropping to set point on start

Quick question:
I have an auto and in the past when i cold start it, the RPM would drop to about 800 shortly after start.

In the last 3 months on cold start, the RPMs have not been dropping down to that point for me thou...

What i mean is that i start the car, the RPM would be around 1.6k for the warm up period, then it would drop to 1.1k and stay there.
If i warm start the car after this, the sequence would start at about 1.6k and then go down to the usual 800rpm.

Has anyone experienced this?

RPM's stay higher when its colder outside and drop once the car reaches a set temperature

Does your do it?

you start it, it revs up, then it warms up and goes down to 1.1k and just stays there. it doesnt go down to the 800 mark (even if you let it sit for 5 minutes)?

For five minutes that certainly seems like a high idle. Mine sits at the 650-700 mark after warming up in sub-40-Farenheit weather.

What oil are you running?

Mine is tuned to reduce the high idle a little but it does sit there for about 5 minutes before it drops to the 800 mark in ~10C I also have an oilcooler so I dont think mine is a good comparison haha!

Mine does. During the colder weather it won't drop to 800 until after I drive it a bit. It will drop from high (1600 or so) to mid (1000 or so) and stay there for as long as I just let it idle. If I put it in gear once warmed and move it just 2 feet it will drop to low/regular idle. It will change once it gets warmer don't worry.

k. I was wondering whether this was a common issue or not. I will be getting a wifi obd2 dongle next week to check for temps etc.

was worried as this did not happen in the 3 years that I had the car for, so i'm thinking they sneaked it into one of the firmware updates they pushed a while back.

thank you very much for the feedback

I actually just bought a WiFi/Bluetooth Samsung Galaxy 4 Tab tablet and a Bluetooth OBDII scanner yesterday - it's very useful for monitoring stuff like this.

Just for more info on it, with an oil cooler (air cooler) and a koyo radiator and at around 30F if my car is already warm up it will sit at around 700-800. But if I just let it iddle at that temperature after driving it a bit, the oil and coolant cool down quick enough to make the engine bump the iddle to 1100 rpms and it stays there until I drive it, no matter how long I let it idle, it is not enough to heat up the car. I doubt your problem is the same (unless you also have a bigger rad and an oil cooler) but you do have an automatic car so maybe it takes longer to warm up? In anyway, it is totally related to outside temperature and not abnormal at all.

This is definitely normal and is due to it being colder.. just as @go_a_way1 said
