Sorry I am a newb to the car world!

Thanks for the advice, I will look into it!

Sorry for the thread hijack, gents.

Blah I am dying to order wheels but cant figure out what square setup I can run. I know the info is everywhere. But does anyone know for a fact that 19x9.5 with 255s will clear a stock strut with say Swift Springs 1" drop?

Sorry for the newb jive.

Question. I reading through and seeing square is the way to go. For many resale reasons. Do you guys run square wheels but then stagger the tires? Am I right is saying that the front is the issue when it comes to big sizes as compared to the rear. So say 18" all around, but like a 245 on the front and 255 on the rear. Yes I know you can't rotate, but resale on the wheels is still an option. And why don't I see many 9" wheels?

You can do whatever you like, but you cant rotate, it makes for different diameter front and back, promotes understeer and for a 10mm difference front to back its more headache than its worth.

9" wheels are around, but for whatever reason 9.5" seems to be more popular. I have 9"

There are too many variables. Not all 255s are created the same and the offset of your 9.5" wheel will determine if you rub as well. If you really want to stay with the factory spring mounts, then I would recommend just stepping down to a 9" wheel which you can still run a 255 on.

I am quite intersted in the whole stagger vs square setups, this thread is great as I am exploring these wheels as well. I was leaning towards 8 & 9 but keep going back and forth..... I don't want anything sticking out and don't want rub with swifts lowered an inch.

The 245 tire is plenty for this car even with an extra dose of power. I have 245 super sports on the front of my 225is and they are plenty meaty on an 8.5 rim.

18x9.5 +45 will poke out a couple mm in front, and a hair or close to flush in rear. 18x9 +44 and 18x9.5 +45 won't clear the front if your Swift springs are on stock struts.

I would get 18x8.5 245/35 square for function>form or 8.5 245/35 | 9.5 255/35 staggered for form>function if you are keeping stock struts.

If you go with coilovers, 18x9 255/35 (or 245/35 square if you can live with a tiny bit of stretch) for conservative looks/function and no messing with alignment to get fitment right. 18x9.5 for slightly more aggressive looks and poke can be eliminated with conservative camber adjustments (either slotted holes or use of camber bolts but NOT both at the same time, camber plates optional but not necessary).

Before you select 255 or wider tires, be cognizant of their posted tread widths as some tires (such as MPSS) have wider tread width given the same tire sizing compared to, say, Hankook Ventus V12. People are known to rub on 255 tires with 9.5 +45 yet others have fit 265 or 275 (on 9.5 and around +42 and +43 ) with no rubbing and no fender mods/bumper trimming. It depends on a combination of alignment, offset, and tire selection. Also, wheels don't always measure exactly to their spec due to manufacturing variations.

Thanks Switch

Looks like 8.5F and 9R rear for me (I don't want any rubbing, even with midgets in back). I would push bigger than a 245 in back as 255 will def push things. In fact if I staggered the tires I would go 225/245.

PS - No offense meant to midgets or children as I love them both
