My Subaru warranty not only pays to fix the car, but it also provides towing and a rental car while it's in the shop, so there's also less risk involved with other opportunity costs of getting to work, getting the kids to school, being raped and murdered while stranded on the side of the road, etc. When I bought mine in 2014, my choice was to pay nearly the same price for a used 2013 and accept the additional risk of the early issues. Buying new was a no-brainer.

Further, our cars are similar, but they still change year over year. The versions out now have some features mine doesn't. Are they worth the extra money? Maybe, when also taking into account the opportunity cost of the additional risk of the older car being out of warranty.

Whether you can accept the additional risk and forego the newer features depends entirely on the individual situation. I bought my BRZ when my Jeep aged to the point that it was becoming unreliable. Since I drive 25K to 30K miles per year, I needed to reduce my transportation risk as low as possible because the travel schedule for my job demanded it. If I decided to add a fourth car to my fleet right now, I'd buy used, simply because the BRZ is still (knock on wood) reliable, and I also have a semi-reliable backup. But when the BRZ becomes unreliable, I'll buy another new car at that point to reduce my risk again.

Or I might buy a new car sooner if something interesting hits the market that I can't get used. Maybe Toyota will introduce a new sports car.

Sad to see your car go

I got my car back in the july of 2014... It's doing fine still @ 66k mile. *knock on wood
.... I just recently got E85 & oil cooler then found out there is a very small amount of oil leak somewhere.

There op don't buy one unless you live by a mountain pass.

What extra performance features over a GTS does the limited have?

Here in AU the 2017 limited got Solar orange paint, the PP and some interior features.

Sadly now, the only advantage a limited has over a GTS is paint and interior features.

They are though selling them for the same as the 17.

I got a killer deal with my 17 Limited, if it wasn't for the deal I got I would have got a GTS and used the saved money on a BBK, coilovers and an exhaust and tune.

My Sachs and rims were replaced almost straight away, so that would have been pissing money away anyway.

Not sure what you're talking about. I didn't say anything about getting rid of my car.

I grew up with cars all around me. At one point we had fourteen cars for three people with licenses. I only have three now, so I don't see why I wouldn't keep the BRZ when I buy something else.

To visit clients in home, I drive out to a lot of rough neighborhoods and regularly leave my car parked multiple blocks away due to crowded streets. A soft top makes an easy target if someone is interested in what’s inside. I carry around a lot of things, and given the Miata’s limited storage space, I could find myself needing to leave personal items like a backpack which could contain private client information in the passenger footwell/seat. Having something like that stolen would be a big no no.

Woof.

Still so conflicted. Maybe I'll just pay off the sportwagen and wait for someone to trade in a WRB 17 during this winter.

I MISS MY LIGHT RWD FUN.

My homie! Definitely get a BRZ/FRS/86 then. And maybe a beater for the winter, or at least winter tires, but you probably knew that.
