I had originally considered buying the different upper pan/lower block, but decided it wasn't worth the money vs just installing a fitting.

Ah now that's annoying. I can't imagine how it is more cost effective to have different lower blocks especially when that plug is already there... What exactly is that plug even supposed to be used for??

Is there any disadvantage to using the throttle body lines instead? This install seem a lot easier and I don't need to make a mess with coolant and buy 1-2 gallons from subaru to replace it all.

I have also probably had my parts for 6 months now and haven't installed them. If I just use the TB lines it would be done this weekend...

I'm no Engineer but I won't recommend the throttle body route to anyone. My goal with this was to replicate the OEM setup, using the coolant channels designed for this. I've been running on mine for almost a year now zero issues.

Do what you want bud. This thread has been here a while and most options have been discussed. Factory routing is the best. If it was better to use the throttle body they would have.

Not enough coolant flow to be effective.

1. Did somebody compared 2 methods (throttle vs. stock on turbo).
2. May somebody post routing stock-like , with heater hoses (easiest possible way) ?
Thanks

The post at the top of this page shows real-time oil temperature analysis under normal driving conditions, with this cooler installed off of the throttle body. Appears to be effective. Maybe the original/OEM routing is slightly better, but this will definitely help keep temps down.

You can get this for < $200
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1945226&postcount=40

I could always use the throttle body for the winter and change it out for the OEM routing in the spring if I am motivated.

I'm planning to install this OEM cooler, but trying to replicate the Cusco set up. I will post details about it if anyone is interested.

Part cost I paid was about same but I had to bore 1/4 npt thread because adapters I found only had 1/8 npt. Tapping new bigger thread on existing smaller thread for the first time was PITA.

Oh and I got the open box deal on mishimoto hose kit for 50 bucks only~
Only the box was open, but the hoses were in original sealed plastic bag.

Oil cooler is legal for STX in 2015. Time to give this a thought. Plan to build a track/stx autox car. How does this hold up on a NA car in track day? Sufficient or leave something to be desire? Any clearance issue for those with grimmspeed intake? It look like it will be tight if not impossible.
