Is it a rod bearing or a main bearing?

The rod bearing is the one on the crank at the base of the rod, while the main bearing is the one in the block which holds the crank in place.

I would guess it is a rod bearing, as that is the one that would make noise as the rod hit back and forth on it.

I take this as rod bearing at the crankshaft. Haven't yet heard of a spun main on this engine.

It was a rod bearing, at least that is what I was told on the phone. I never got to talk to the tech working on it, just the SA but he later said crank shaft bearing. There might be some confusion but I will pick the techs brain when I go pick up the car.

Crankshaft bearing is a main bearing. Connecting Rod Bearing is a rod bearing.

Update: After I got it back in mid December I had it for two weeks before a even louder rattle appeared. I took it in the week after Christmas and it was diagnosed with a damaged crankshaft bearing.

Dealer said there was debris in the oil pick up and that they would order all new crankshaft bearings and that it might be ready end of the week last week.

Not sure what happened between that time but I was told yesterday I will be getting a new shortblock

Hopefully I will be getting my 86 back soon.

This was after the first repair

The dealer gave me no push back on any of my claims. My car only has a TRD intake. I haven't spent a single dime on theses repairs luckily. It seemed too easy to be honest.

When the bearing failed it probably damaged the crankshaft too.
