I would be careful about running H3's in there. Using PSX24W's in place of H3's is fine because they use considerably less wattage, but using H3's in housings designed for PSX24W's can cause melting issues with both the housings and the wiring. The circuits are designed for 24W bulbs, not 55W bulbs.

Just saying, nobody will have tried it yet, don't want to see a ton of melted lights around .

EDIT: I do realize this is mostly about HID's, which are often 35W, but I believe my post is still relevant.

is this for the 86/fr-s ?

I know that in the BRZ manual it shows PSX24W but in the toyota 86 manual it doesn't seem to specify what the front foggies bulbs are...

And appreciated. The point is to learn and make smart modifications.

That's what I am talking about! Do you recall the ballast size for that project? Also, have you found glare/dazzle issues with those HID fog lights? What about power draw???

Thanks in advance!

The inquiry was specific to the WRX, and HID lights in for light housings in general. Still, if you are taking your car in I will be very interested in how your set-up works out. Thanks!

I used the slim digital ballasts for the fog lights, the WRX had a lot of space in the bumper and I actually re-used one of the mounting holes for the light housing, along with the supplied 3M double sided tape, it was very secure

With any housing intended for halogen bulbs WITHOUT a factory projector, you will experience some glare simply because that's the way the housing is, but with the FR-S and BRZ headlights, they have a factory projector that helps with a majority of the road glare.

These are all 35w kits, when compared to the factory bulbs which are 55w/65w usually, these are brighter with half the power.

edit: Here's a picture of the ballast mounted, very secure, doesn't move or bounce around at all

Very true, even Lexus cars in japan have had specific well designed HID fogs just to avoid this problem. But as you can imagine factory HID fogs are crazy expensive

Lexus IS factory LED fogs .. almost $1200.00 +

Factory IS350 HID kit .... $2200.00 !

I was wondering, do you guys even know what the yellow lights/lenses mean? It does actually have a racing background.

In case you didn't know, yellow lights or lenses usually donates a car of a lower glass. Think GT2 and GT3 for example. Ferrari will run 458's in both classes but the GT3 cars will have yellow headlights to show the difference.

I always wonder if people know what this means. Especially when I see them on honda civics and such.

I'm sure most people don't refer to yellow lights to racing history but a lot of people simply like the look of white light for the headlights and yellow for the fog lights, like the GS400's, IS300's, and other vehicles that have them stock from the factory

There's a reason behind everything, there's no real reason why people do anything to their cars other than the fact that it's their personal style and they like it, so if they want purple fog lights, let them understand that it doesn't produce much usable light but if they like it, then go ahead, if they wanted 20" wheels on their car, let them know they're gonna look like a clown car and get horrible gas mileage, but if they ultimately want to do it, no one is going to stop them, there's no written rule book on how to modify a car unless you're trying to build after a model vehicle
