HID Yellow Fog Lights and Rear Halogen Fog Light
Alrighty, I searched for any threads pertaining to the front fogs, but did not find much, so here goes:
One of the first things I am going to do with the BRZ is dump the factory fog light bulbs (since they are usually crap), and replace them with yellow HID units. I also want to install an actual fog light in the rear. I am thinking an intensity level somewhere along the lines of what MINI uses for the rear. I am the type of guy who only uses his fog lights in rain, fog, and other reduced visibility scenarios. Be that the case, I would not mind if the rear fog lights were activated by the switch, which runs the front lights. I will more than likely have to run a larger relay, but it's fine by me since I will have the functionality I am looking for along with a clean interior with no aftermarket switch for the rear fog light. Then again, if happen across and OEM switch for the rear light, who am I to complain? :D Do any of you gents. know of a reputable HID vendor? Are any of you guys knowledgable on this subject and/or have (or currently do) run yellow HID front fogs? Any input would be appreciated, and thanks in advance. :) |
Many HID yellow bulbs are just a regular hid bulb dipped in a yellow coating. It makes them not as bright and they're not that yellow. I usually recommend to customers PIAA plasma ion yellow bulbs along with lumin-x yellow over the fog housing. That also aids in protecting it from rock chips and fading.

Friend had HIDs from DDM Tuning... I believe yellow is 3K? I could be wrong, but they were very cheap and still work. Compact mounting size too. I'd get a warranty package if they have one though... lights, bulbs and other HID related things tend to have bad "batches"

I always thought hid in foods were a bad idea? Melting from heat or not really fogs so they don't work well when in actual fog

I will check out your solution - all I am looking for is some good, long wave length light at sufficient intensity to cut through fog and rain. |

Fog light color, and placement - i.e. well below driver's line of sight - reduces back-scatter, allows the driver to see in foggy conditions, and allows other drivers to see you without being blinded. |
most HIDs now are manufactured in the same factory in china. then privately labeled and branded
just make sure choose a seller that has lifetime warranty on their bulbs yellow is 3000k (kelvin) if you plan to put HIDs on the fogs you will need to drill a hole on the housing for the wirings |
euroeffects.net is my buddy's shop. People may have seen us at the LA (my trip), Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, etc Auto shows. CAN-BUS ballasts, not cheap, works for 6 months and its out, 49.99 junk... 35 watt and 55 watt kits are both available. As well as any Interior/Exterior illumination. Also checking the availability of colors for their stock (D4S BRZ) bulb replacements and their DRL replacement colors.

hey guys what is the foglight bulb size/socket? would it be H11?

I don't know if this is helpful, but I've had Nokya Hyper Yellow bulbs in my scion tC's fog lights for a few years now and they work perfectly fine for me. You might not need to spend $$$ on HID kits. Here are some old pics from my cell in '07:

You never want to use HID bulbs in your fog light housings. Ever. It's too much light being scattered directly in front of your car and this makes it harder to see down the road in bad weather. This is why there are no cars that come from the factory with HID fog lights, it just doesn't work.
