I highly doubt it was your oil. I would check things like tire pressure, your air filter and other items that could cause a drop in mileage. In addition, winter blend fuels will give you different mileages that summer blends and I bet your area has recently switched over.

Someone should tell the engineers at Porsche that they're using the wrong oil for every boxer engine they've made since 1996 then...

(Specifically, Mobil 1 0W-40, if I remember right)

TGMO full synthetic 0W20 from your local Toyota dealer is very good oil, and made by the same folks who make Mobil 1. The price is decent as well.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your oil, assuming you got the same 0W-20 grade as factory fill.

Like what someone else has said, something else is contributing to your fuel consumption increase.

Are you sure its not the changing blends of gasoline for winter? I had the same change from oem fill to Amsoil, saw the same drop in gas mileage, but I attributed it to different gas rather than the amsoil.

No differences that I have noticed. Still runs as smooth as it did from day 1. Gas mileage seems unchanged, maybe even a touch better.

That's strange I've used Amsoil on every vehicle I've owned for the last 25 years now and no issues and have always gotten better mpg. Most often it's been used on High Performance VW Beetles where only thing protecting them has been the oil.
Sorry to hear that.
I do plan to use Amsoil in my FR-S of course the recommended weight

Man these oil threads always go in an interesting direction. Thanks for all the input peeps!

I'm going to give the oil some more time and check other things. Might just be me getting comfortable with the car, and I'm not babying it anymore.

related question: where do you order your amsoil product? Is there a place for a good discount? Also, does amsoil make a good gear oil for the diff?

I do not know much about the differential fluid. I will be looking into those threads later. I got mine at RMP in Costa Mesa for 7.something per quart. They have the xl and regular in stock.
