Umm... I think you have been misled regarding oiled filters (at least the K&N, which I have used on multiple cars). There is no significant amount of oil ingested by the engine, unless the user over-oils the filter after a cleaning. The oil is what collects dust/dirt, and is highly efficient.

I have not experienced a MAF problem using an oiled K&N.

And to brush on piece of mind, visit K&N's website and explore. They've got soo much information about the trials & testing that their filters go through, and data regarding airflow and filtration efficiency. That's piece of mind for you.

And again, check your butt dyno's calibration, because you probably gained maybe 4whp (~2-3% difference in power). If anyone can honestly and accurately feel a 2-3% change in HP, well... best butt dyno ever.
Don't get my wrong, I have used a INJEN CAI for 3 years on my old car. I didn't not experience any problems but I did clean the maf sensor using maf cleaning spray every year.

I am not saying a oiled filter is bad, what I am saying is a AFE Dry filter will offer similar gains to an oiled filter and it saves you the hassle of having to oil the filter every time you clean it and the chance of over oil. Why choose a filter that involves more work in the long run when they both offer 3whp?

Why?
1. Higher filtration rates: Proven and, more importantly, Documented.
2. Million mile warranty

A K&N needs to be cleaned, give or take, every 30,000 miles... Having to clean and re-oil a filter once every ~2 years or so is hardly a hassle, IMO.

Note: I have no real evidence to support this theory.
But, from some reading I've done, an oiled filter (considering the oil is what traps the dust/dirt, and is washed away and replaced at cleaning) does not lose efficiency cleaning after cleaning. Whereas a dry filter will lose efficiency at each service, as dust/dirt that is lodged deep in the material does not come out during cleaning.

I agree that Oiled filter will provide the max flow and performance. Regarding warranty, AFE also provides warranty on OE replacement filters for as long as you own the vehicle, but that doesn't matter.

A Dry filter will ALWAYS provide more filtration than a Oiled filter, but I also admit at the same time limit the air flow. There is a reason why OEM filters are Dry.

This site has some extensive third-party testing on different brands of filters:

http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=180100

So yes, Oiled filters will give you more hp at the expense of less filtration, which in our case is probably .3 whp difference. You can look up FT86speedfactory's drop in filter test, the dry filter did make a bit less hp.

I also agree with you that Oiled filter will probably last the life time of the car and the dry filter will probably needs replacing after a few cleaning cycles.

I still stand behind my point though, I would sacrifice .3whp for better filtration, easy maintenance. I would rather replace the 50 bucks filter a few times during the life cycle of the car than knowing I am gaining more .3 more whp at the expense of less filtration.

I see your point regarding dry vs. oil filtration. However, does aFe publish R&D results including filtration rates?

This I honestly don't know, I have not really looked into it. I believe they have a flow chart on their website but no filtration rates.

have the TRD and is a good sound plus the response is slithgly up but anything else is a placebo effect. if you pair it with exhaust and tune then you will see a difference.

K&N filter here. Slightly throatier sound slightly quicker feeling in high rpm. I've trusted K&N for many years and feel gain for gain, this is much more effective relative to price compared to $300+ intakes.

Oh Geez... That's because I'm a dummy. I reviewed the front plate bracket, not the filter...

I know you guys are busy, but any update on the black emblems or v-band clamp?

I have the TRD filter, and I'm happy with it. There's definitely an increase in sound, and the engine seems just a little bit more eager (probably all in my head). The construction is very similar to the K&N filters I've been using for years, but the filter material (cotton gauze?) seems a little thicker. This may provide slightly better filtration at the cost of .002 of a HP or something silly like that. For the price of a TRD filter, I could have almost bought 2 K&N filters. If I was going to do it again, I'd likely just get a K&N.
