Drop-In Air filters
 

Hi all! I was reading up on the forum and many have said that drop-in filters can improve horsepower by 5 or more whp! Now my question is which air filter should I get. I've looked at many threads and thought about works, TRD, and Perrin. All opinions are welcome :)

I bought and installed the Zeta filter about 3 weeks ago. I really enjoy it. The price was great and it really frees up the RPMs. Just my recommendation.

I just ordered my FR-S with the TRD filter. We'll see how it is when I pick the car up soon :)

I put in an AFE dryflow filter, and I can really tell the difference! It revs SO much faster, and makes more power, and I can break the tires loose in all the gears, and it makes my hair more lustrous and shiney, and...no, not really. I didn't tell a difference. At all. I bought it so I could just so I could clean & reuse it.

Perrin is great, Cosworth if you want to stay with a dry filter.

I have K&N and it is great. Perrin is the other good choice

K&N myself. Revs smoother and the butt-dyno registered a little bit in the 5000+ range. Little louder. Paid $40+tax. A+ for a reusable.

Can we resurrect the works drop-in air filter thread?

K&N is the most cost effective (got mine for ~$38+ S&H), and they all give basically the same benefits. Slightly better response, a little change in intake sound, reusable.

If anyone's butt dyno truly registers a verifiable power increase, I recommend a recalibration (or it must be a Works dynapack butt dyno)... ~<5hp isn't a highly noticeable gain during daily use.

What? Of course it is! ESPECIALLY if I just spent $300+ dollars for a fancy intake system... I dang well WILL notice it! LOL

Exactly... People feel results because they want to/feel like they should. Placebo much?

Umm... I think you have been misled regarding oiled filters (at least the K&N, which I have used on multiple cars). There is no significant amount of oil ingested by the engine, unless the user over-oils the filter after a cleaning. The oil is what collects dust/dirt, and is highly efficient.

I have not experienced a MAF problem using an oiled K&N.

And to brush on piece of mind, visit K&N's website and explore. They've got soo much information about the trials & testing that their filters go through, and data regarding airflow and filtration efficiency. That's piece of mind for you.

And again, check your butt dyno's calibration, because you probably gained maybe 4whp (~2-3% difference in power). If anyone can honestly and accurately feel a 2-3% change in HP, well... best butt dyno ever.:thumbsup:
