ok.. the title says it all.. do they generate any extra hp and are they worth it?

Power that you can feel in your pants? Probably not. Improved throttle response? A tad. I have an aFe intake, and honestly, I didn't notice much of anything except a slightly smoother idle, and throttle response was a bit better, but nothing earth shattering. If I did it over again, I would do a drop in just for good measure of a complete intake.

I've played with the idea myself. I don't know how the ECU on the FR-S operates, but often they can negate the benefits of the air filter. Additionally, you it can cause particulates to enter the engine. So it's a case-by-case basis, and as I said, I'm not sure about the ECU on the FR-S, perhaps someone else in the community can give some definite results.

Personally, I would install one if it had a modest HP gain (even if it was 5-6), and increased fuel economy. Often the performance companies don't have substantiated gains.
