My dealership originally wanted a $3000 deposit. I said "pardon?" I gave them $1500.

its actually bullshit, unless they are ordering one new from the factory, money down is just a way for the dealer to make a quick commission and not work for "free" so to speak. My dealer took down all my info and wanted me to put $250, then $500, and then $1000 so he could locate me a black auto and also to "help" my credit app go through.... i called his bluff, told him the next day i was gonna go with vw or hyundai because of 0 down, 3 days later I drove off in my black frs that got shipped from del rio.

lol, many of us ARE ordering from the factory, so how is it bullshit?

These are refundable deposits, so tell me how it is commission for the dealer?

Let me reiterate that for you, this is not "money down", this is a way to secure your place in line, secure your order, and that money can be retrieved at ANY point up until they PDI the car and are waiting for you to drive it off the lot.

...and if someone else walked in while that car was on the lot and wanted to buy it, they would have sold it out from under you.

That's really what the deposit is for. It holds the car for you exclusively. Without it, they are under no real obligation to do so since they asked for a deposit and you refused to leave one.

Yup, fully refundable $500 deposit to order mine fresh from the factory. Some are doing the deposit to "tag" cars as sold when they come in. Nothing unusual about this on a car that is not on the lot.

The demand is down for the cars......at least automatic ones. My dealer said he has 4 on the lot that they can't move, all are automatics.

That made me smile.

With the manual transmission on the edge of extinction, I'm glad to see any trace of hope.

Yeah, it is sad that so many "kids" have no clue how to drive a manual.

You got yours via an inter-dealer transfer, gratz. Doesn't mean that for 99.9% of people a refundable deposit is "bullshit".

Way to attempt to personally insult me with the "ur mom" comment too, really makes you look credible.
