I reckon the old carburetor "hissed" and a throttle body "sings". Really, nothing has changed. The setting, back in the day ....... at the corner garage/gas station. Johnny's parents just got him a brand new Chevrolet for his HS graduation (he graduated first in his class (of 35)). Johnny pulls into the station, opens the hood on his car, removes the air cleaner from the carburetor and asks Bubba, who works at the station, and dropped out of school, "what's wrong with my car, why is it hissing?" Bubba replaces his air cleaner, shuts the hood and turns to Johnny, shaking his head, "don't EVER open the hood again ...... just bring your car by and I will check the oil, fluids and tire pressure for you". THE END humfrz PS - Bubba's sister helped out at the station .....

I used unnecessarily big words again.
I'm sorry.Hysteresis can be either stickiness or slop depending on the situation. Basically there's a bunch of mechanically imperfect shit between the drive motor and the position sensor. Depending on how tightly the controller tries to maintain position, it can cause that whistling sound.
