I've heard some really sing, none of which have failed. The reason I suggested slowly stepping on the throttle while listening is to demonstrate how the whole servo system goes into and out of resonant peaks many times throughout its travel. This is due in part to natural hysteresis of the gearbox between the motor and the position feedback encoder.

WOW! Thanks for the educational background on that ......

I reckon the old carburetor "hissed" and a throttle body "sings".

Really, nothing has changed.

The setting, back in the day ....... at the corner garage/gas station. Johnny's parents just got him a brand new Chevrolet for his HS graduation (he graduated first in his class (of 35)).

Johnny pulls into the station, opens the hood on his car, removes the air cleaner from the carburetor and asks Bubba, who works at the station, and dropped out of school, "what's wrong with my car, why is it hissing?"

Bubba replaces his air cleaner, shuts the hood and turns to Johnny, shaking his head, "don't EVER open the hood again ...... just bring your car by and I will check the oil, fluids and tire pressure for you".

THE END

PS - Bubba's sister helped out at the station .....

I used unnecessarily big words again. I'm sorry.

Hysteresis can be either stickiness or slop depending on the situation. Basically there's a bunch of mechanically imperfect shit between the drive motor and the position sensor. Depending on how tightly the controller tries to maintain position, it can cause that whistling sound.

You outta be ......

I'm getten tired of always going to google to be able to read posts .....

I got mrs humfrz one of those Echo things, our daughter got her it's offspring, named Dot, for X-Mass.

She is always asking that Alexa girl to do things ...... she is pretty darn smart (I wonder if she is related to google ..... ).

Maybe I should put Dot on my desk to answer questions I have about big words .....

OK, @Ultramaroon ....... It's time for me to go watch the news. Oh, damn, I guess it will still be about women marching ......

What the hell do they want THIS time ......

It seems they just have to get up in arms every few years ..... like they have been doing for years ...... and some of them are STILL not happy.
