Anyone know the noise?

Anyone know what is causing this noise? Car is not on, just let in ignition. It does not stop and is extremely load as in you would almost have to yell at someone if there beside you. Took video of it below.

Correct NOT running, key is just in ignition, happens on full accessory. Should have added its coming from throttle body area (intake manifold).
Video does not justify how loud it is, climate controls turned off so not a blower fan for heating or cooling and not the rad fan.

If it were me, I'd use a stethoscope or hose/rod to determine where the noise is coming from then start pulling fuses or dis-connecting connectors to see what makes it stop.

Bubba suspects the horn is sick and stuck - he says to pull the fuse or rap on the horn with a BF screwdriver .......:iono:

Bubba ain't usually right ...... but, he tries ...... :sigh:

Why not just drop it off at the dealer? I assume your car is still under warranty at that mileage and MY.

If possible I try not to go to the dealership for anything I've had issues in the past with other vehicals that had to get legal. It did go in my favour but I hate going to the slime bag place.

Mine has done this ever since I can remember, and from what I diagnosed, it's related to the throttle body stepper motor. I believe you are hearing a particular resonant frequency emitting from the internal electromagnets that are trying to maintain the stepper's position. The reason you can hear it just in accessory is because the engine will mask that sound while running.

I really don't think it's anything to worry about.

I do all my own preventative maintenance myself, so I don't take my car to the dealership either. However, I would make an exemption if something were to fail under warranty. I certainly wouldn't pay for it out of my own pocket.

I hope you get it resolved either way though. Best of luck.

It's just the throttle servo holding idle position. Have someone slowly step on the throttle while you're listening. It's fine.

Newtothegrounds 01-21-2018 09:48 PM

K thanks for the info guys. I'll try the throttle it should change even if it's a tiny bit like your saying.

Overdrive 01-21-2018 09:53 PM

That is quite loud. Can you hear it like that in the cabin? Being so close to the firewall I have to figure it goes through pretty clearly.
