Are both of your cars vin numbers less than I posted earlier in the thread? If you don't have the problem but you do have the older ecu you can just ask them to change one if the custom options that are listed on page 369 of your manual. I THINK these settings require the new ecu but have not been able to confirm this yet.

Add me to the list, 3.5k miles. Between this and crickets...grrr...angry phone call coming your way tomorrow, Subaru!
Edit: you know, this whole experience is really just rubbing me the wrong way. I feel like now that the dealership and thereby Subaru have my money, I'm forgotten. You have to make so much damn noise just to get them to pay attention to you again. I'm not trying to get a free this or a comped that. I just want the god damn car I bought to work as advertised. My end of the bargain is easy to uphold: pay money. Subaru needs to get behind their friggin' product. As a customer service experience, this has been just completely miserable. I could rant for hours and hours about what kind of organizational beliefs and culture lead to this kind of result, but that isn't going to make the crickets or the CEL go away, I suspect.

And another thing...
Why the hell in an age of multiline displays do we even HAVE a single "check engine" light. That is such a hateful user interface. "Something is wrong. It could be big, it could be small, we give you no indication." Really? REALLY? How about telling me what's ACTUALLY wrong with my car. Assholes.

I wouldn't worry about it grenading. I wasn't, the dealer said the car puts itself into safe mode. Sent from my PH44100 using Tapatalk 2 |

What's your last 5 digit VIN #? Sad to hear that man. I'm gettin mine fix starting tomorrow. My service rep told me that it's a two day job and hopefully it is. Did not drive my car for 4 days now and another 2 more days for the fix. Crossing my fingers that that will be it for the issue to be resolved.

Yup you can feel that it goes to safe mode when the CEL turns on. The push of the engine that you feel when all things are normal is there but in safe mode you'll not feel that.

my vin is 6645 and i threw a CEL. I had the new ecu and still had issues with the cam. The dealership replace the bad part and ecu.
based on that, i dont believe if u have the old ecu it is the sole issue... |

There is a newer ECU that relates to the CEL problem specifically based on the posts of the guy who had a fix to his car.

A number of reasons. First they don't want to overwhelm a driver with too much info. If they had half a dozen lights come on while you're on the highway it could distract to a dangerous degree. This is something that's actually pretty carefully considered by various agencies and the car makers themselves. Then they also don't want to give just enough information to be dangerous. An engine code may or may not have an obvious sounding cause but even given an obvious name it might be caused by something else. Would you be more or less pissed if you replaced a sensor yourself that an indication seemed to point to and it didn't fix anything? Another reason is that manufacturers don't want to give away all the information about what's going on in the ECU. If you start getting into the nuts and bolts of what sets a specific code (which would be the next step) they have to tell you more and more about their software. This gets dicey concerning intellectual property and international exports. This is all commercial (non military) so that's not as bad but still can be a pain. Source: I design and support ECU software for engines. |
