Cricket TSB

Not sure if everyone is aware but there is a TSB as of this May for replacing the high pressure fuel pump with a different model that corrects the problem.

TSB 09-54-12R
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...-09-54-12R.pdf
(theres updated info/links in the TSB forum)

has anyone in Orange County had this service completed? Im wondering if any of my local dealerships have the parts in yet, and if the noise is completely gone like the TSB says. Im gonna go tomorrow and ask Irvine subaru

Heard my first crickets today after having the trd catback installed. Can we bring it to *any* dealer for them to fix tsbs or do we need to bring it to the dealer where we purchased the vehicle?

You can bring it to any dealer which sells your vehicle. You don't have to take it back to the dealership where you originally purchased your car.

So, if you bought your FRS at a Toyota dealer in El Monte, but live in Ontario, you can take your car in for service at the Toyota dealer in Ontario.

So I just came from Irvine Subaru, its was way to busy to get anything done today so I had to schedule an appointment. I did ask about the TSB and the service manager said that Yes there is a new replacement part, but he has yet to perform this TSB on a car yet, so I might be his first guinea pig lol.

as an FYI, bring your car in warm/hot, or however much you need to drive you car so that when you bring it in its already chirping. They have to verify you have the chirps and if you bring it in when its not chirping they will possibly not offer to replace the pump.

Thanks for sharing the TSB. It's nice to finally read a report identifying the source of and a solution for the cricket.

Hope this fixes the problem. Although it clearly states on the TSB the following:

"IMPORTANT: A “clack” or mechanical “ticking” sound may also be heard as part of the operation of the high-pressure fuel pump which is considered to be a normal operating characteristic. No attempt should be made to repair it."

By this is Subaru/Toyota stating that this will be the last fix for this problem? Even if the problem still has a ticking or clack sound instead of the chirp/cricket? Will be keeping my problematic FRS for now until I actually see this TSB fix the problem.

There are 2 distinct noises. You know if you have the cricket problem. During the winter mine has been very minimal. I remember during the first few months(Summer) it was much worse.
