This is my first post on here and im a complete noob, but im getting close to my first oil change. I was thinking about using the eneos 0w20 oil, and i was wondering if you can provide your own oil at the dealership or if its even worth having them service it.

Since their labor is free I can't see why not unless you've got the space and equipment to do it yourself and you like doing that. Put a scratch in the top of the oil filter so you can verify they also changed it.

I like changing my oil, but the car is brand new so i figured taking it to the dealer would be the best thing to do? And thanks for the advice i never thought of that

did this at a toyota dealer, they put in every bit of what i gave them, all six quarts and sent me out the door.

did this at a jiffy lube, again every bit of what i gave them, they put in, all six.

took my car to walmart, again every bit of what i gave them was put in, this time all 5+ quarts from the oil change jug. I win. (i then went home and added some to make it "FULL"

word of advice, if using someone else to change your oil, inform them of the correct amount, what you expect, and what you want if things are done incorrectly.

Thanks killerkid08 for the advice! I just dont want people to fuck my car up I've heard way to many bad stories.

Then (and I'm not being a wise-ass) do it yourself. This car is very easy to do an oil change on. Go to your local Subi dealer and ask for a filter #15208AA130, and a drain plug gasket #803916010. I didn't notice if you're driving a BRZ or FR-S, but it doesn't matter...the same exact filter from the Toyota dealer (Literally! you open the Toyota box and pull out a Subaru filter) costs twice as much. If this is the first oil change, make sure to get the old gasket off the drain plug (it doesn't come off easily the first time as it is painted after assembly and will stick to the plug or oil pan). Keep your receipts, and make a note of the date and mileage when it was done if you are concerned about warranty.

I wouldn't suggest going to a dealer if you want it done correctly.

Either do it yourself or find a trusty subie specific independent shop like ours where they will treat it as their own and at the same time you get a good service on your car.

Maybe where you guys are from your dealership is untrustworthy, but I've had good experiences getting my car serviced at subaru corporate dealerships so far.

Only problem with getting different oil is it will definitely void your factory warranty, with that agreement and understanding i'm sure the dealership would do it anyway as long as that's understood.

One thing I really disagree with on the maintenance plan is the 7500 mile service intervals - my car drinks some of the oil and by 7500 miles (im at 15000, got an oil change today) my car was limping into the shop. I think that if you want the car to stay in good shape, change it under 5000 miles.

First that won't void your warranty as long as the oil you provide meets the manufacturer specs. Same as if you did it in your driveway and saved the receipt.

As for bringing your own oil, while we do allow customers to bring their own if we don't sell their brand, it is pretty rude to do that. Would you bring a steak to a steak house?

Well, considering the first 3 oil changes are included with the car, I don't think the dealer will be offended if you bring your own oil...

If somebody wants an oil we don't stock i encourage them to bring it themselves. It will save them a lot of money compared to us buying it and having to mark it up. 5qt jugs at Walmart are really cheap and while i use Motul i can understand people not wanting to pay that price.
