Yeah I left the dents, they are not as bad as yours.
I already had a claim in this car for suspension damage to the tune of 8k.
So having another claim within the year even for a comp claim would likely either get me dropped or have a car payment like monthly payment.

I will live with the damage until something else happens to it.
For me its not a beauty queen anyway.

Thats totally understandable. I was expecting you to try to lecture me about how making insurance claims is only going to screw me long term, but avoiding multiple claims in the same calendar year is probably for the best. On a side note, you can always take it to a dent wizard or something like that and get an estimate--it may not be severely expensive, depending on the damage.

My guy tried to count the amount of dents, but gave up before he even made it a quarter of the way, btw. He counted 10 dents just in a 3" circle at one point.

Also, at least for State Farm, I found out their totalling metric: They begin to consider it when the cost of repairs reaches 75% of the current value of the car. Thankfully, I was well below it.

To be fair, this is not a normal occurrence. The storm itself was only a few miles in radius, and we rarely see hail in this part of the state. I also hear about hail that is much larger pelting the great plains. Frankly, though, I will take hail over tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes any day.

Today, the insurance adjuster/quoter came to look at my car, and was amazed that there was that many dents on the car (he called it "peppered"). We noticed additional dents on the roof rail (above the window) as well. Estimate came out to just a bit more than $3000. I should be receiving a check next week, then its just about getting the car into a shop and having everything repaired and replaced, which will probably take a week. Thankfully, I have rental coverage as well.
I did this a few years ago with my Celica and quarter-sized hail. I didn't notice the damage at first, and the estimate was over $3k. The PDR is great, just check that they put your interior back together properly.

I thought they woudln't have an issue with it, but due to the sheer amount of dents, they figured it would be quicker to just replace the hood. And hopefully I'll end up with a bit less of the "orange peel" on the paint.

Side note, this is a body shop that is employed by a number of dealers in the area, including Porche, Mercedes and others (including my dealership). To say I have high expectations (with reason) is a bit of an understatement.

UPDATE

Further update---just got a call from the Body Shop..the "Dent Wizard" or whoever they contract to do the dent work on the car is apparently overwhelmed by the sheer number of dents on the roof and trunk lid, and has brought up the possibility of replacement. Obviously, as the roof is welded on, this becomes a much more involved process. Talking to the manager, we came up with two paths as far as the roof (looks like I'll be getting a new trunk as well! )

1) Go with the replacement of the roof, which involves cutting the old roof off and re-welding the new one on. This would also involve removing the front and back windshields, which could create a whole new mess if they aren't properly re-sealed when they are put back on. Naturally, breaking/re-welding and glass removal makes me nervous, but as I said before, I'm inclined to trust this shop--chances are it would turn out fine.

2) Have the PDR guy get as much out as possible, then strip, prime & block (I assume that means sand) and paint when it looks smooth. Any remaining dents would essentially be "filled in" by the primer. Advantage to this is that it should take slightly less time, and doesn't involve cutting my car apart.

As of right now, I am going with option 2, since there seems to be less risk involved. In the worst-case scenario, however, the strip, prime & sand method may not work well enough, in which case the roof will have to be peeled off anyways. Either way, looks like I won't be getting the car back until next week at the earliest.

Do you have them on the sides of the car too? Depending on your deductible, its worth an estimate by a body shop, assuming you have comprehensive insurance.

Thanks for the sympathy. Now take how you feel about the acorn dents and multiply it by 1000. Thats how many dents I had on the hood, roof, and trunk.
