TRD CAI

Tennis Freak,

There is nothing wrong with the OEM brakes. I'm a 71 yr-old former SCCA racing license holder who likes to stop as well as go. The firmer pedal feel is just one of the cheaper things one can do with the car that improves the drivability for about $100. As I wear the original pads I'll be trying some streetable alternatives as replacements. I installed the TRD CAI without trying other possibilities. Based on my limited experience with racing intake systems, it looked like the one likely to yield the best drivability. Others might make a small amount of more HP, but I suspect they would be peakier and less drivable.

I just got a new tune from my tuner and wow...this TRD intake is getting even more bad ass! I am about to send more logs to him and it will get ever better.

The original MAF sensor is simply moved to the new airbox. If you look at your engines I believe the covers say both Toyota and Subaru; I doubt that you will encounter any crap from your dealer on warranty issues

Note: this was included in the instructions___

" If your state requires an Emissions Complianc Label, one may be ordered through your Scion dealer or the Toyota Materials Distribution Center (MDC) 310-468-9800 or MDC@toyota.com"

Also: "This TRD Performance Air Intake Kit has recieved 50-State Emmisions Compliance via the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Not all states require the Emission Compliance Label for this TRD Performance Air Intake Kit, please order MDC part number 00602-21140. Proof of ownership may be required."

Next up---I do not have access to a dyno. I am 71 years-old and have been an SCCA licensed driver as well having driven a variety of performance machinery my whole life. It's my opinion that the TRD CAI has dramatically improved the low-end torque. When I roll on the throttle I'm getting a nice seamless torque response throughout the RPM range, where the OEM setup was peaky at best. All of the OEM system is removed except the last little bit of the sound tube, which is blocked off with a cap. The cabin is slightly less noisy, I can now hear the injectors clicking (a common Subaru trait). The engine now sounds like an engine; lovely, smooth mechanical sounds instead of that "artifical sound-tube." There is no "magic" bullet to increase horsepower without spending cubic dollars. Subaru and Toyota have equipped these cars with technology that was common only to real racing cars not so many years ago. My goal has been to enhance my BRZ with practical additions that increase my driving pleasure and enjoyment. The only other items I've added were a master cylinder brace and braided stainless brakelines. These enhancements have produced a much firmer pedal that reminds of race cars I've driven. Now I'm going to enjoy driving the car and "learning" to get the most out of it with what skills I still have.

How much for order an Emissions Compliance Label form local Toyota/ Scion dealer?

Thanks.

Should have my intake tomorrow. Hoping to be able to do another dyno in the next few weeks when a couple other people have their cars ready.

Were you with the bunch that did a dyno day up there in VA? If so, where in VA, when, and how much? I might be interested in heading up there if my header/over pipe comes in.

I was. Really no date or anything. Xjohnx is waiting on a header. Have a coworker with a GTI race car, and another coworker with a m5 that would probably be interested.

Dealership installed the TRD exhaust and intake today!

Here's a quick review:

The good

-more low end torque, I can't believe what I was missing
-better throttle response
-really helps out the torque dip, shifting into second is smoother now
-the sound is pure sex, not too loud, no drone, looks beefy!

The Bad

-God D*mn expensive, did I mention I gave the arm and the leg
-Bang for buck kinda goes out the window, you buy this setup because you want that warranty to stay golden, otherwise I'm sure the aftermarket has WAY better deals available

Yep, guess they thought red parts raise perceptions.

I'm still torn between +5 hp on a (take your pick) drop in for $55 or +10(?) hp and better throttle response for $365 but being bumped out of SCCA Stock class autocross is worth it.

One thing about the drop in though is it appears that the 5 whp has a tendency to disappear as you start adding more parts especially for full exhaust and definitely with a tune.

We've already seen an impressive gain with a cat back, I hope to be able to show a good gain with a full exhaust over the k&n filter and perrin inlet tube soon.

I'd like to see what happens with someone who has a tune.

the more good things i hear about that, we may find out sooner rather than later. I'm thinking about picking one up now to tide me over until my header arrives.

I'm just joking. No need to buy it if you plan on getting the trd intake. Unless you fashion a replacement tube from it to work with the trd intake.

Another cat back system will not void your warranty.. Same for the intake..
They won't fix any problems under warranty caused by those parts.. But they won't void any warranty..
