Thanks for the info and PDF! As for the sensor, where can you get it for $72? I was quoted $85 by subarupartsforyou.com.

According to my inquiries, part number 1 below (Defroster grille for $12.26) comes as one type (no holes) across the two trim lines of the BRZ. You may be able to verify that through any Subaru parts Manager.

I looked at the factory installed sensor on the Limited BRZ and it was sticking out slightly. I only was able to visually inspect it from outside of the windshield. You may also want to verify my observation through any BRZ Limited owner.

Due to the two considerations above, I thought that - for an FR-S upgrade scenario - drilling the existing factory installed plastic garnish is the easiest option. however, if you find a plastic garnish OEM equivalent with a pre existing hole on the passenger side, or alternatively, you figure out that the sensor does not need to be poking out of the garnish passenger end, that would be great either way.

Just popped off the garnish piece on the FR-S this morning and there is no harness or receptacle visible around the HVAC surroundings.

If no socket receptacle is visible under the garnish piece of the FR-S on a USDM, this finding certainly provides the final answer for attempting to use existing wiring to install a light sensor from the BRZ: No-Can-Do.

You can not just drop in a Front Light sensor without a socket and prewiring to the BCM. Too bad, but still good to know conclusively. Thanks.

I verified there is no socket as well. However, an aftermarket photo trigger system can be wired into the factory wiring to enable the auto circuit in the FRS. On a different note, I did find what looks like some lighting taped up in the dash, on the passenger side. Not sure what it goes to, but here's a pic:

It wouldn't be near the HVAC. It would be at the top of the dashboard or top of the windshield.

Either way, this can be done. Zig, not sure why you're saying its no-can-do? If the socket isn't there it doesn't mean there is any wiring anywhere for it. And if there isn't and you have to run wire, it doesn't mean the ECU doesn't know what to do.

I think Ike meant the defrost vent in the dash, which is where I checked. There's definitely no socket there, however there is a place t mount one, if we can order it as well.

If anyone knows a limited BRZ owner, maybe you could ask them to remove the dash garnish a take a pic. I'm curious how the sensor connects (plug & pins), and also curious if we can wire it to the ECU easily.

A few of those tape up wires could be found all throughout the car, I'm not exactly sure what they're for but it's a rubber cap that fits over a group of precut wires that looks ready for splicing.

Like kmbkk said you could use a aftermarket solution http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35431 Moto-P has a mini guide to retrofit one into stalks with auto.

I'm guessing for GT86 headlights the auto leveling ECU controls how the headlight beam is aimed, while the auto light controls when the headlights turn on and off to clear up the confusion.

Yes, it is a special order for her.

I can get the stalk WITH AUTO / WITHOUT AUTO, WITH FRONT FOG OR WITH FRONT & REAR FOG.

The one that is listing on my website is the EURO LHD Spec, with AUTO and Front fog light option.

And she special requested for the front and rear fog stalk.

I only sell parts using from a Toyota 86/GT86.
