On a different note, can someone take a pic of the auto headlight sensor on the BRZ? I'm goin to order one and just wanted to see where it's mounted.

Thats weird because images on the web indicate otherwise.
Sorry, I guess I miss read what you asked. Kmbkk is the only one to get the EDM stalk. The rest of us have the same one Nigel offers on his site which is the USDM BRZ stalk.

I have a feeling it's mounted in one of the "clips" that hold that plastic vent just under the windshield. But honestly I haven't looked.

Apparently, @kmbkk also got it from Nigel. So is Nigel changing his inventory or did he just get lucky?

It may be special order, but he also may have ordered more than one when he ordered mine.

The BRZ Light Sensor Location is Certainly Easy to Find

The automatic light sensor should be installed at the passenger end of the Defroster Nozzle Garnish on top of the dashboard. That is if there is a socket for it in the FR-S build.

To investigate that, you'd need a Molding Remover to remove the Garnish plastic piece (long one with about 16 holding clips underneath) to inspect if a receptacle socket for the sensor exists underneath.

If the socket is there, the sensor is $72 from Subaru. If you break the Garnish plastic piece, the replacement also comes from from Subaru. The graphic is on page 1435 of the FR-S repair manual.

I can send you a Subaru PDF containing all the details, however, I tried everything to attach a PDF one page file to this message, but still could not do it.

My theory is that the socket exists, same like the socket and harness for the auto dimming mirror.

In general, Toyota added all the necessary parts for upgrades. If you're interested tell me how to send you the PDF graphic to investigate all the above.

The attached Subaru PDF is for the physical location of - and how to get to - the socket that is the receptacle for the light sensor. The sensor is physically not there; otherwise you will be able to see it poking out of the passenger side of the Defroster Nozzle garnish. If the socket is there, the sensor is $72 from Subaru.

I also think that the socket (not the sensor) may be there and it's just the sensor for the headlights that is needed. The OBDII port observation, for the "ambient light" parameter is already set, such observation confirms my own belief.

The Subaru PDF attachment is pretty much the same on the Scion FR-S Manual page 1435 of the repair manual. The FR-S manual is already on this Forum.

Finding and confirming the existence of the receptacle socket would make the job much easier to just buy the sensor, drill a hole in the Defroster Nozzle garnish and plug the sensor into the pre-existing socket - if it's really there.

Do you know if the same automatic light sensor is used for the GT86 headlights? I have the auto leveling ECU and sensor from Nigel but the sensor doesn't look the same as the one shown in the diagram.

The sensor that Zagmeister showed is sticking out of the hole in the nozzle garnish on top of the dashboard. The one I have right now seems to have the same receptacle socket but doesn't look like it's visible at all once installed.

I may pull off the garnish and verify this today, provided it stops raining! Also, by looking at the PDF, do you think there is a different garnish for cars with the sensor? My guess is there is one pre-drilled/fabricated with the hole you could order. Thy is if you want it as OEM as possible.
