FRS fogs using BRZ stalk
 

Alright guys! So I'm going to do the best I can but I am using my phone so bare with me! Also if you have questions or need clarification please feel free to ask.

Ok so start off, I'm not going to show how to install the fogs since there are multiple threads about it. This is a good one to use, just watch his second video.

The other parts I ordered besides bezels were and fogs themselves were:
X2 h11 pigtails for the bulbs

As for the little connectors and what not I will take pictures of that later. Also I used a size 20 fuse.

Install:

So the steering wheel must come off in order to put the stalk on. It has to go over the column and it sits flush with your other stalk. Once you have the wheel removed just unplug the harness from the stalk and remove it. Replace it with the new stalk and plug the harness back in.

I don't have pictures at the moment but will take some when I get out of work. We made our own wiring from the pigtails I previously provided. We designated a side and made that "power" and the other "ground". The power is red and the black is ground. Later on you may notice it isn't the case but it was because we ran out of red wire while trouble shooting. Once the harness was made we ran the passenger side above the radiator to the drivers side and then both up the fender to the area where the main harness goes into the vehicle just bellow the hydraulic steering.

We also ran a power wire from the battery with an inline fuse following the firewall to the same location as the fog wires. We did this mostly to be safe and while trouble shooting we blew most of my fuses in the beginning.

Once you have the wires inside the vehicle, should be above and to the left of your clutch pedal or dead pedal, you are ready to wire up.

Now I suggest taking off that "kick panel" that your trunk release and dimmer switch are to make life easier. So what you are going to be looking for is pin 24 on plug D5. The easiest way to explain this is there are only 2 wires on that row and its the white one. So what we didn't realize was this wire is not a "power" wire. It is only hot when the "ground" is completed. So the best way to do this is connect the two black wires we made earlier (grounds) to each other leaving enough wiring extended to connect to pin 24, the white wire.

Once that is done connect the two red together and connect them to the power wire we ran from the battery. It should end up something like this.

Once it is all wired in you can test it out. At this point I had my steering wheel back on so I didn't get an airbag error. The fog light switch will turn on your fogs no matter what lights you have on if any at all. A cool thing is if you turn the headlights on there is a fog indicator in the gauge cluster that is now enabled because of the module on the stalk itself.

Once it all works put it back together and you should be good. Also, if someone with a BRZ or JDM/Euro GT86 can confirm, do y'all's fogs only come on with the headlights or can you turn them on whenever and that indicator still comes on?

Can't say that I understand all this but subscribed in hopes it all becomes clear. I want fog lights and want them powered with the factory stalk. The fog indicator is a great addition.

Where are you lost? When I add the other pictures it may help.

I guess I need to understand the wiring harness for fog lights. I don't understand why you would be pulling such heavy gauge wire and power from the battery into the cabin to make this work.

Ideally the fogs and major power for them would stay under the hood. Powered through an appropriate amp rated relay. All you would need from the stalk switch, fog light contacts, is either a ground or small amp 12v to the relay to energize the relay and turn on the fog lamps.

So I'm guessing if I use a pre-made harness with a relay built in, I can just run the ground from the trigger side of the relay to this pin, and supply a constant 12v to the power side of the trigger?

Well the factory fogs actually draw a bit of power based off the BRZ wiring diagram we used. It uses a 40A if I'm not mistaken, not sure what it is in volts. Also we ran to the battery with an inline fuse because we had the "power" wires hooked up to pin 24 and not "ground" so we kept blowing fuses. Before we realized it and swapped the "power" and "grounds" around we hooked that up to stop blowing fuses in the fuse box. Once we got it working we left it that way for now. We plan on finding a better solution when we get a chance.

Also keep in mind I didn't have relay's readily available at the time. We are going to add it when we redo it.

Just the 1 inline fuse from the battery.

So now we wait for either someone to use a Prius stalk or someone to figure out how to connect the auto headlight feature on the BRZ stalk... Great work man and I'm sure a lot of people will learn from this!

I plan on doing the auto lights later when I source the rest of the parts but I may swap the Prius stalk in there to test it out.

Im def in to know if the Prius stalk is a direct fit

Did a price check, it's pretty much the same price as the BRZ stalk.

Quick question, at the end you said you ended up connecting the red wires to the wire from the baterry, so there's no need to run it through the firewall correct? Second question, you said the white wire is only hot when the ground is complete, what exactly do you mean by this? Is it more like a remote wire?
