Seems to me that 9" width is perfect for this car when running a square setup.

If you're going to be close to the strut, you can use the lower strut mount hole for a camber bolt. It won't be a huge different, but will get you a teeny bit more clearance than running a camber bolt in the top hole. I think the top one is 16mm and the lower one is 14mm. Best to look it up, my brain is fuzzy.

There are plenty of tires in 235 that are "grippy".
Are you tracking the vehicle or just need street rubber?

For example- Yokohama S-Drive or AD-08.

Completely forgot about the AD08s and the Michelin PSS for 235s. As long as they make it to my 14mi commute to the train station i think the stretch is fine. Plans are for light track duty once a quarter and autocross once a month.

Talking to autocross people get me into the sticky meaty mood while the ricer in me just want to stretch . I think the AD08 will get me into the best of both worlds. Thanks for the heads up!

You're welcome. I've used several sets of ad-08 on my Z33 and ZZT231.

I just installed 255/40 S-Drives in the 86 and they are amazingly good on track. Perfect street and light duty track tire. A little better wear than ad-08. But not as sticky and temperature (track) resistant.

So, still can't decide what size rims I want to go.. I'm looking to get the most outta my new shoes performance wise.. both on track and street/canyons.

My options are:
17x8.0 +37
17x8.5 +48
18x8.0 +45
18x8.5 +33
18x9.5 +40

Any advice? Appreciated..

Edit: Also am looking to lower my car by and inch or more on some coilovers, does a higher offset increase the chance that it'll rub?

If you are looking for 100% performance only, id suggest 17" and since its only 1/2" diff just pick the lighter/stronger ones as either will run the same sizes of tires for the most part

Higher offset will suck the wheels further into the wheel well, more clearance to the fender, less clearance to the suspension

8 +37 and 8.5 +48 should both fit ABOUT the same, +48 is the stock offset, so picture it this way, the 8.5 adds .75" to the inside and outside of the stock rim evenly. The 8 37 would poke out of the wheel well 11mm but would be .25" less width on each side (11mm is .4") so... From the stock wheel, poke out .4" plus .5", basically the same outside poke, but would leave more clearance inside ( which isnt necessary as either of these is not tight fit)

And yes, tread width and wheel width can be mix matched. U can easily run anything from a 225 through a 255 (or even more or less if u want) on either rim (if u look at tire specs they usually suggest a range for fitment, such as specs for a 225 tire might say "fits 6.5 to 8 inch rims") there are reasons not to go tooo far in either extreme, but 8/8.5 u wont be limited cause of that half inch

Btw though, the 18x9.5 would allow a wider tread option, so if u plan on adding power and u think ull need >255 or so, u MIGHT consider these

But. A 9.5 +40 will be kinda close to the front suspension (stock) and will poke past the fender a tad, so lowering much ud need to pull the fenders or run camber id think

Sorry but this is incorrect. The offset is relative to only the inside of the wheel, so the extra 1.5 will be added to the outside. Inner clearance is exactly the same.

Wrong. Offset is the distance from the face of the mounting hub to the center of the rim

That would poke, alot. My 9.5 +38s poke a fair amount, those would be almost another inch poked out of the fenders than mine. I hope u have the rb kit
