I like the throaty intake sound as its pumped into my car. It's not fake or computer generated... it's just making it easier for me to listen and enjoy.

In all seriousness, the sound tube might add to the sound if you have the stock exhaust, but if you have most perf. exhausts, owners agree the car sounds better without it.
How much balls are needed to work a 10mm socket, yank out some piping, then slap a $35 cap on the intake tube? Of course I could just use duct tape and the top of a vitamin bottle, like some dude on here did. That would take balls, I suppose...

The way to read the results are that out of 41 people who deleted their noise tube, 100% are glad they did.

Very, very rarely you get a 0% regret rate on deleting anything that isn't completely shit to start with.

More people miss their Prius tyres than miss the noise tube.

That's true, but most people that attempted to delete, were those that were bothered by it in the first place.

Chances are, someone who chops down a tree overhanging their driveway, doesn't say to themselves afterward, "You know, I kinda miss all that birdshit on my freshly waxed paint! I think I'll get a new tree!", however, if that same person kept his cars in a garage, the tree, most likey, would have remained.

Bingo! We have a winner.

Still it is interesting that over 60% of respondents either deleted the sound tube or are undecided about doing so. When you consider that the forum is no doubt populated by a harder-edged, more enthusiast-oriented group (relative to the average twins buyer), the percentages would probably be even higher in favour of no passthrough tubing in the total twins owners' population. Seems like Subaru has some work to do here.

For me it's not the volume level that's passed through, it's the crudeness of the engine/intake noise compared to just about everything else out there, from Porsche to Stang to Audi to the GTI. It's kind of tiring and grating to listen to when it should have been one of the highlights of the car. In its category only the blatty Abarth 500 sounds worse.

Personally I can't wait to delete that sound tube. It makes the engine bay look sloppy and after I installed my exhaust that's all I want to hear because it's perfect. I don't get why this ksc guy is taking this so personal it's a poll bro if you like it fine no need to try and make other 86 owners feel like idiots for removing it.

I like it and kept it with the current aftermarket intake I have but the perrin inlet tube and CAI are going on it next week which will delete it. I've read its actually just as loud with it off using the Perrin combo Im going with, hopefully this is true. Im switching to perrin to have a cleaner engine bay and because Airaid.

I got the Perrin inlet hose and I really am happy with it and the sound tube delete. Plus it looks really nice in the engine bay, and will look even nicer when my engine cover becomes red.

I took mine off and plugged the inlet with a 1 1/2" rubber cap with hose clam found in plumbing supplies. I'll keep it that way. I like added quiet almost as much as added lightness.

I liked it until I got a better exhaust. It was plugged immediately, then removed completely. The new exhaust just sounds better, but the sound tube was good with stock exhaust.

Deleted as soon as I got an inlet tube. Not a huge fan of the noise.

I have plugged mine from the inside using the cigarette lighter plug. To me the sound tube is like a headphone that allows the occupants to hear the engine breathing. Sometimes, it is kind of nice to hear the throaty intake sounds. I do not consider the sound to be fake rather that it's just being transmitted better to the cabin via the stethoscope-like tube. Others who install modified (loud) exhausts achieve similar results except they are hearing the engine breathe out instead of in. More importantly is the fact that the modified exhausts are the opposite of the sound tube, they are noisy loudspeakers instead of discrete headphones. Some aftermarket exhausts make the typical "ricer" sounds that tend to annoy other drivers on the road. The most embarrassing part is that when you are trying to enjoy your engine's breathing sound via the loud exhaust, other people may get the impression that you are simply being obnoxious. This embarrassment is compounded even more as your car makes tons of noise and is practically standing still compared to a Honda Accord when the stop light turns green.

I'm ok with the idea of a sound tube, I just wasn't a fan of what I was hearing with this one. To me it didn't feel like it got a whole lot louder when really revved out, because it was already fairly loud at 3k rpm. Once removed, it seemed a lot more linear as the sound built up with the rising engine speed.
