In the blog, it explained that the performance modifications were the same.

and if your talking about the extra 1.5psi that was because it is safer to run more boost with e85 or race gas because of its resistance to detonation.... the real reason we want e85 in the first place... |

The nice thing is you don't have to run it if you don't see a benefit. But having the option does bring bigger injectors and higher capacity fuel pumps that will benefit anyone upgrading the performance. I believe that fact is getting lost on some.

That is true, but regardless the factory ecu is not able to take advantage of the bigger fuel system while running regular gas. If that is the sole reasoning behind wanting an E85 capable car, I could think of many better things that could be added to the car which would result in the same price increase. |

Anyway... I've already posted tuning options for factory ECUs, I'm sure with enough demand the FT86 would soon have something of its own.

using another example: my MR2. from the factory, they come with 440cc injectors, and 160whp. my car is using all the factory fuel system components (with a walbro pump) and making 240whp. and i'm not running out of injector yet.

My EVO needed 1000cc injectors to break 600whp on race gas. When I upgraded to run E85 I went to 1600cc injectors and now put down 648whp. The thing some might be forgetting is the fact the FT86 will be direct injected. Without larger injectors from the factory, you will be stuck with whatever comes in the car, limiting potential power. The poor MAZDASPEED3 guys have learned this the hard way as they are limited to 400whp.

when tuning my AEM, i think i'm using "raw" figures, so i couldn't tell you with much precision what DC i'm running. i would imagine in the 70% range, so there's still a little room there, but not a whole lot. to get my MR2 where i want it, my fuel system and turbo need to be upgraded, but that will wait until after i finish school this year.
and i might change some parts inside the engine, but we'll see...one thing i was wondering, since i haven't really done much research (never really had any reason to look): no one makes larger capacity direct-injection injectors? -Mike

Since we are in theory dealing with a 2.0 liter Subie flat 4. Let's look at the last 2.0 liter Subie flat 4 that made it to the USofA, the 2002 WRX. It came with 420cc injectors, ones similar in size to yours. Stock power on 93 octane was 169whp and 174 lb/ft. Well those injectors got maxed out at Stage 2(tune and down pipe), about 225 whp and 223 lb/ft. So without help from a bigger fuel system from the factory me might get stuck with relatively little room to improve engine performance. Direct injectors and their ultra high pressure fuel pumps are very proprietary.

Yep and those rumors stated that the car would run totally on the direct injectors at high RPM. But who really knows?
