This is awesome news - If this stays true I can absolutely see the FR-S possibly being in the $21-22k range - I never thought I'd say that.

By the way, try to stay on topic guys.

FWIW:

@EdLoh can you please clarify? 7450 RPM @ 136 MPH in 6th = ~4100 RPM @ 75 MPH... that sounds like high RPM for freeway cruising speeds.

@EdLoh Can you clarify the weight discrepancy since Subaru press release says 2684 pounds? Thanks.

@deslock Wish I could. I kept asking about topend n this is from the JDM engineers. Not aero or electronically ltd, beyond the RPM cut.

@deslock All mfr weights are suspect. 2684 is likely JDM and may not include the 17s and other optional gear. SOA says 2770, we say 2800.

@deslock Back to topspeed; this could all be lost in xlation, but one engineer mumbled something about an unoffical cap of 220kmh. #gofigure

@EdLoh Thanks for the follow-up, and for all the info. 2770 lbs is a little more than I'd like, but I'm very excited about this car.

If they try and price gouge us on this and bump up a base FR-S to 25+, I'll wait for it to hit the used market on the cheap.
If the FR-S is much above $25k then everyone is going to keep buying Mustangs and Genesis Coupes. The Genesis Coupe has been selling VERY well in Canada, it's a unique value because Hyundai gives us the premium leather version with a $2500 to $4000 rebate which makes it the same or cheaper than the USA. < WE THE CANADIAN PEOPLE DEMAND PRICE PARITY!

but it does sound like they are doing their homework. at this price i can still see them selling the 3-4k a year. it seems like the plan is just to make enough of these things to change the images of scion toyota and subaru.

If you want a BRZ in Canada you're going to pay $30000 for the premium and probably $33000 for the limited.

Fuck Subaru. Buy the Scion. If it's $21000 for the Scion in the US then it should be $23000 here.

Just watch... if the scion is at least $6000 less than the base Subaru in Canada all of you owe me a Tim Hortons coffee, oh wait, I don't drink that swill.
lol...a tim hortons reference..nice! I'm financing this car so... A scion finance rate is probably 2.9% for 60months, subaru being a "premium" model, would probably have a 5.9% rate...not cool

This is seriously great news. This tells me that the Scion, bare bones, 6 speed manual, has to be at $21,995. If this is true. Scion/Toyota/Subaru is going to make a TON of money off of this car.

According to Inside Line,
2013 Scion FR-S To Hit U.S. Showrooms in Spring With Under-$30,000 Price Tag !

That could mean $29,999 or $23,999 , etc.
If they price it in the high 20k range, by the time you get it optioned out, you could be north of $30k! Not good.

With all the interest this the BRZ and FRS are generating, I hope the dealers don't push for a high MSRP. If they do, it will hurt them in the long run and the whole purpose of the car, to provide a fun and affordable driver's car for car lovers, would be lost.

There will probably be a BASE BRZ about $1300 cheaper than the premium. Around 22,700 for the absolute base price.

No, that's what the Scion FR-S is for.

The BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear)."
That's the same we basically got directly. I want the vented discs all around (which are standard on the FR-S so I'd be shocked if they aren't on all of the Subarus) and the Alcantara heated seats far more than I want the damn nav system
