Either way, Subaru's weight is directly from Subaru, this is from a MT editor. I'd put far more faith in Subaru's number, especially when using it to compare against Scion's number as both will have been measured in the same way. The FR-S guys are happen with their low 2600lb weight and not with the BRZs 2770 Motortrend stated weight.. well the cars don't have 170lbs of differences. There is no weigh the weight difference is that much with just the couple of options missing from the FR-S.

Subaru might use more sound deadening, better quality fasteners, bolts, clamps, whatever... It's easy for pounds to add up when you start using higher quality parts. I think it's pretty obvious that Subaru is going to be the high-spec version and with that comes added weight.

Jalopnik has your answer:

"According to Twitter traffic, the BRZ will come in two levels of trim, the base-level — called, strangely, Premium — which includes navigation (yes, standard), eight-speaker audio, soft touch dash, limited-slip diff; leather-wrapped steering wheel (tilt-telescopic), shift knob and e-brake lever; six-speed manual; aluminum pedal covers and cruise control, among standard features. The BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear)."

1. 2-pc lightweight rotors all around w/SS brake lines (~$1200)
2. TRD supercharger (~$2500?)
3. Take the front vents out etc., stick in the roll cage (~$1000?)
4. Import the gauge cluster from the GT-86 / ditch the radio (~$500?)
5. Get whosever racing seats and ditch stock (~$2000?)
6. Add BRZ spoiler (~$500)
7. Some 17" 15lbs racing wheels (~$1000)

Total cost: ~$29,700

*any opinions on my pricing?
Sounds like a good plan!

In red is what bothers me. You can easily shead -$1k off the price if that navi wasn't there. I'm not too stoked about that.

Edit: Where's the Aux and or USB jack? >:l

I've did that with the RX-8. Good education. But after 8 yrs of upgrades (minus the SC, cage, and seats), now I know what best helps turn a car like this into a track scalpel, w/the SC (or TC) adding the power I lust for and have been denied.

Fun to see that my first post on the forum is now being sent out as "news". Hope that doesn't piss anyone off.

For the guys who appreciated the info, you're welcome. Can't wait to go a mountain run with you.

For the haters, flamers and flag-wavers, Let's chat in 6 months.

Cheers,
Hong

"Subaru BRZ should go on sale in May 2012, starting around $24k for Premium and about $27k for Limited."

He isn't saying anything definitive here. "Should" and "around" could mean he's still speculating, or at best Subaru giving ballpark figures. I don't think this proves the pricing of the BRZ at all.

The interesting thing he said though is that the front suspension is stiffer and the rear softer. That likely means the BRZ is more understeer-biased than the 86?
