WRX brakes would be more than adequate to stop this car. STI/Brembos would be nice but i think overkill for street and moderate track use.

I'm so glad the Scion is just a base since I want it to be the least amount of weight possible, and the Scion has that one. 2800lbs is a little on the heavy side for the BRZ.

Ok just checked the Legacy 2.5GT/3.6R (specifically those two models).. 12.4" and 11.4" rear, both vented.. so perhaps they are using Legacy 2.5GT/3.6R brakes. If the Legacy uses 2 piston front sliders then maybe this car will be rocking brakes that are used to easily stop ~3500lb cars.. that would be PLENTY of brake for everyone until you are pushing an insane amount of power with long track sessions braking from high speeds.. They could also be mixing, WRX front/Leg GT rears, etc.. I'm sure they spent plenty of time setting up the bias/brake balance correctly so whatever they used will work fine.

I doubt it'll be more than 50lb difference.. and that's on the high side IMO unless there's non-obvious features that are different. Subaru's averaged weight in the press release was less than 2700 IIRC.

They'll be fine for wheel to wheel racing let alone just moderate track use (and anyone who thinks they need to be upgraded for the street is out of their mind, unless it's just for the looks).

They'll be perfectly fine until you can get enough top speed that the heatsinks simply won't be large enough to hold enough heat from the repeated high speed braking on the track. With the powertrain that's in this car that won't happen anywhere near stock.

Eww at 2770lbs. I figured in the end it would come up to 2800lbs. I'll be waiting on the FI versions of these cars.

All this great news says to me there's a good case now for buying a bare bones FR-S for say $21K, ripping it apart and buying...

1. 2-pc lightweight rotors all around w/SS brake lines (~$1200)
2. TRD supercharger (~$2500?)
3. Take the front vents out etc., stick in the roll cage (~$1000?)
4. Import the gauge cluster from the GT-86 / ditch the radio (~$500?)
5. Get whosever racing seats and ditch stock (~$2000?)
6. Add BRZ spoiler (~$500)
7. Some 17" 15lbs racing wheels (~$1000)
8. Coilovers (~$2000)

Total cost: ~$31,700

*any opinions on my pricing?

Last edited by spin9k; 12-02-2011 at 03:54 PM. Reason: opps...added coilovers.

Premium gets you a happy ending, Limited gets you the full service.

Or, track it stock for awhile, smile and profit? Then fix whatever you find faults with?

This says 2770, either from a Suby source, or they took the car and weighed it themselves, so it'd be a "wet weight". Regardless, it's probably around that weight.

Thats my thought exactly, 21k for the FR-S and 24k for the Subaru would be the hardest to decide price split. I personally would side with FR-S because I could care less about heated seats and all that other crap.
